Filter and deliver emails in the cloud to deal with the burden of spam
posted on 29/09/2011
Currently over 90 percent of emails delivered worldwide are spam emails. This means that whilst you may be able to effectively filter emails in house, it will require increasing resources, to manage and maintain. Consider this; your enterprise receives 20,000 emails per day. That’s 18,000 emails that must be analysed and inspected by your anti-spam software each day; then another system must scan each email and its attachments to ensure that they do not contain malicious software. At this point, an organisation should start to think about implementing a gateway type anti-spam server on separate hardware to deal with this burden. Whilst there is nothing wrong with this type of solution, it has its limitations. First, it’s another piece of hardware to run, cool and keep secure – the server must be licensed and up to date at all times. It also must be monitored and kept under warranty. All of these costs can be avoided by moving to services that filter and deliver email in the cloud. ... [more]

Whatever we use them for, it is likely that between them they store a large amount of personal information, including passwords, home addresses, web browsing history and photos. For many people installing comprehensive security is an afterthought, which can leave all that personal information unprotected and vulnerable to cybercriminals and malicious software. By protecting consumers, whether they use desktops, laptops, smartphones or Android-based tablets, Kaspersky ONE is the first step in securing the wider digital user experience, not just the device. Cybercriminals are disguising their messages to make them look like official notifications or business correspondence
posted on 20/09/2011
It used to be that malicious attachments came in emails with erotic photos of girls who “want to meet you”, or “scandalous photos” of celebrities. Now, cybercriminals are disguising their messages to make them look like official notifications or business correspondence. In particular, spammers now like to send out fake notifications for postal services such as UPS, FedEx, and DHL stating that they were unable to deliver a package and that the recipient needs to pick it up from the office immediately, or that the recipient’s address was filled out incorrectly. The messages contain a ZIP archive file that allegedly contains the forms needed to collect the package. In actual fact the attachments contain various types of malicious programs. “These changes to how malicious emails are sent are linked to the fact that most users do not expect to find malware in business emails,” explains Maria Namestnikova, Senior Spam Analyst at Kaspersky Lab. “Erotic photos of girls ‘waiting to meet you’ can...
