DiskShred mobile shredder can destroy hard drives and electronic media devices
posted on 12/05/2009

Studies have highlighted how prominent the risk of data theft from redundant media is and how vulnerable organisations are. A report published in the International Journal of Liability and Scientific Enquiry claims that data being stored on redundant drives represents a significant level of risk for commercial sabotage, identity theft and even political compromise. The three-year study, titled "The analysis of information remaining on disks offered for sale on the second-hand market", found that only one-third of disks had been wiped clean of data as compared with 45 percent in the previous year’s study. This figure is supported by the recent report by Kessler International, which shows that 40% of second-hand hard drives it researched contained personal and confidential corporate information. DiskShred has announced the launch of its fast, foolproof and secure disposal solution for sensitive and confidential employee, customer and business information. Providing on-site destructio... AXIS video encoders record surveillance video at Tampa Bay Downs gaming facilities
posted on 08/05/2009

Tampa Bay Downs is the only thoroughbred race track on the West Coast of Florida, and is known as one of America's oldest and most well-maintained race tracks. Tampa Bay Downs Inc. has installed AXIS video encoders, enabling the track to exceed new state regulations for recording surveillance video at gaming facilities in a cost effective manner. AXIS Q7406 Video Encoder Blades and AXIS Q7900 Racks have been installed for 60 of the track’s existing analog cameras in The Silks Poker Room, which features daily poker tournaments on 30 tables. Cameras are used to prevent, fraud, coercion and provide general security for the room. Video encoders digitize analog video signals and send digital images directly over IP networks, such as LANs, intranets or the Internet. They essentially turn analog video systems into network video systems and enable users to view live images using a Web browser or video management software on any local or remote networked computers. The impetus for the purch... [more]

Hotel key cards can present a serious ID fraud risk - fact or urban legend?
posted on 05/05/2009

Hotel key cards could potentially hold sensitive personal information. And according to some companies, hotel keycards might present an ID fraud risk to holiday makers as we head towards the holiday season. Equifax believes there could be a very real risk that someone could access the information and use it to commit identity fraud. They say that magnetic key cards might include the customer’s name, part of their home address, their room number, the check in and out dates, and most crucially their credit card number and expiry date. When a guest returns their key card to the front desk, their personal information could stay on the card and possibly not get wiped until the card is reused for another customer. However, since we first published this article, a number of hotel security experts have come forward to refute this point of view. The main reason is that there is no need for the keycards to have detailed personal data. The huge majority of electronic keycards contain nothing mo... [more]
