Weaponised doc files targeting Apple Mac users spotted by AlienVault
posted on 02/04/2012
A family of weaponised doc (MS-Office) files have been discovered by AlienVault. These weaponised doc files - in the wild are targeting the Apple Mac platform, which the company says is highly unusual given the low incidence of Apple Mac vulnerabilities. According to Jaime Blasco, a researcher at AlienVault, the Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) solutions specialist, the fact that the weaponised attacks are already in the wild is of concern, as it means that regular Mac users - many of whom do not have the kind of IT security software on their machines that their Windows colleagues do - are vulnerable to infection and computer hijacking. The hackers behind this latest family of attacks are the same anti-Tibetan group that Blasco has been tracking and written about in several weeks. HarmAlarm New-Old Market
posted on 30/03/2012
Physical Security upgrades for the old-new markets by Infrared Applications Inc. The majority of Physical Security Systems in operation today are limited to the collecting of video data which is used for a post mortem event analysis. The recorded data is often useful in identifying the culprits and suggesting changes to improve security. Unfortunately record-only systems do little to either prevent the actual breach or to apprehend the perpetrators at the time of the incident. To have an effective real time capability it is generally recognized you need security analysts monitoring the security videos. This is an expense that is often beyond the reach of many small businesses. Infrared Applications Inc. (IAI) believes this will soon be changing by our introduction of HarmAlarm. HarmAlarm is the next generation in Physical Security. The long sought goal of video analytics has been the automatic detection and verification of security threats including the elimination of false al... [more]

An additional three thermal cameras were also installed to monitor the fairways of the golf course and inner perimeter where the Hennops River enters the estate.
