UK government admits it cannot ensure data safety
posted on 07/11/2008
The UK Government has faced repeated embarrassments over lost data, with over 270 data breaches being reported over the past year. Prime Minister Gordon Brown has admitted that the government cannot promise the safety of personal data entrusted by the public, and is blaming it on human error. However many in the industry think that the recent spate of security breaches were entirely preventable, and that the Government should address its ignorance, invest in the right technology and enforce stringent policies and controls, to ensure these events are averted in the future. Nick Garlick, Managing Director, Nebulas Solutions Group commented: "The implications of Gordon Brown's recent comment that the Government can't guarantee the safety of personal data are quite astonishing. Image the ramifications if the Chief Executive of a major bank or multinational made a similar comment: shareholders and customers would demand action immediately. “Brown's comment shows only too clearly how... In its new white paper ‘Data Handling – A practical Guide’ BeCrypt explains how Government organisations and their business partners can roll out centrally managed data security solutions that are transparent to the user, so will not impact on business productivity. BeCrypt has recently announced new products that will enable public sector organisations to comply with the latest Data Handling recommendations laid out in three separate reports. Ultisystem video surveillance system combines local CCTV installations with the city system
posted on 04/11/2008
DIPOL has presented Ultisystem, a video surveillance system combining local CCTV installations with the city system, based on common managing software. Implementation of Ultisystem allows to connect to the city surveillance system (and its monitoring center) a number of local systems, e.g.: * sports facilities, concert halls etc. * schools, universities etc. * banks, offices, agencies etc. Ultisystem is effective both in the case of small installations and extended, advanced city surveillance systems. It allows to reduce the costs of installing and operating the system - due to central management from one professional monitoring center. It is possible to configure additional / emergency monitoring sub-centers, which is very important in the case of protecting mass gatherings. The core of Ultisystem is versatile software, allowing to build systems composed of IP and analog equipment. It supports all standard compressions, i.e. MJPEG, MPEG-4, H.264. The software coo... Celo two-factor-authentication solution secures online information and controls access to internet applications
posted on 04/11/2008
As public and private sector organisations open up their networks to facilitate information exchanges across a wider range of stakeholders, they are exposed to an increasing number of sophisticated e-crimes, such as financial fraud and identity theft. As a result, a static username and password is no longer an adequate identifier to verify a user and, at the same time, fails to reassure users that they are communicating with an authentic website. Commerce Media has officially launched its two-factor-authentication (2FA) solution, Celo, which is suitable for any organisation wanting to secure online information or control access to internet applications. The software is one of the most cost effective 2FA products currently available as it can seamlessly integrate into existing IT infrastructures and, unlike many alternative offerings, no additional user hardware is required. Celo has been created to address such growing online threats, and meet the demand for more robust online se... [more]
