RAYMAX Infra-Red LED illuminators enhance night-time security at The Port of Lisbon in Portugal
posted on 16/12/2010

As hubs for trade and transport, ports are vulnerable to terrorism, theft and criminal activity. Port security planners face significant challenges as they seek to comply with the standards set down in the International Maritime Organisation’s security convention (the ISPS code) which was developed in the wake of the 9/11 attacks. Raytec’s latest generation of RAYMAX Infra-Red LED illuminators have been used to enhance night-time security at The Port of Lisbon, Portugal. The low energy illuminators improve the performance of the port’s surveillance system by providing excellent images during the hours of darkness up to 200m (656ft). Thanks to their combination of reliability and robustness, the RAYMAX illuminators also stand up well to the rigours of the coastal environment including salt water, high winds and blown sand particles. All Raytec illuminators provide long-life, zero maintenance (ie. no bulb failure) and are being increasingly used in ports and harbours world-wide. Availa... [more]

Vigilant Plate Manager ANPR solution speeds up the flow of vehicles and enhances existing security processes
posted on 15/12/2010

Vigilant Systems has announced the immediate availability of Vigilant Plate Manager, a new integrated ANPR solution. This new ANPR solution provides advanced functionality whilst costing up to 25% less than traditional systems and enables the delivery of higher levels of security in a wide range of applications including access control and parking. Vigilant Plate Manager speeds up the flow of vehicles, particularly at high traffic volume locations, as well as enhancing existing security processes. The system automatically recognises authorised vehicles using the latest license plate recognition technology before raising the access barrier or opening the gate to allow them to enter. It is faster than using traditional swipe cards and delivers higher levels of security as it restricts entry to pre authorised vehicles. It also eliminates all the security concerns resulting from lending swipe cards to other people. As well as recording the time and date each time a vehicle passes throu... [more]

In-cab video security and safety system from SmartDrive reduces the collision rate at food distributor
posted on 14/12/2010

Reynolds is a leading independent distributors of fresh produce, chilled and ambient goods to the UK food service industry. Rsing collision costs were taking an ever larger bite out of the company’s revenues, making risk management an increasingly more important part of overall fleet management. An in-cab video security and safety system from SmartDrive has been deployed by Reynolds, the company that delivers fresh food to Pret A Manger and Pizza Express. Reynolds wanted to reduce the collision rate among its 235 drivers by using the SmartDrive system cameras to record exactly what happened during the 15 seconds before and after an incident - giving fleet managers a detailed view of what led up to an event, and how to avoid it happening again. The company’s mixed fleet of 180 vehicles ranges from 7.5 tonne to 26 tonne, according to interim fleet manager Steve White. In 2009 the company deployed a video-based safety system from SmartDrive Systems Inc. The SmartDrive Safety programme u... [more]
