D-Link new IP surveillance cameras help to replace existing CCTV infrastructure with cost-effective IP surveillance solutions
posted on 20/10/2010
D-Link has announced the launch of three new IP surveillance cameras – DCS- 3710, DCS-6818, and DCS-5635. The cameras are designed to be used on their own or in conjunction with existing CCTV systems to allow organisations to receive the benefits of IP surveillance, such as greater scalability, flexibility, high-quality images and lower storage costs. D-Link’s IP surveillance products can easily plug into and optimise existing networks, and the compatibility of D-Link’s IP surveillance product means that D-Link’s digital solutions can be integrated with current CCTV systems. This means that an upgrade to D-Link’s IP surveillance solutions does not require a complete and expensive overhaul of existing systems. “As the majority of organisations already have a capable network infrastructure in place, implementing IP surveillance can be a seamless process and requires minimum investment,” said Chris Davies, general manager, D-Link UK & Ireland. “These new products will help UK businesse... Preparing your CCTV site for winter
posted on 19/10/2010
Users of remotely monitored, detector activated CCTV should follow a simple five point winter 'healthcheck' of their sites, to stay safe and secure as the nights draw in. Especially as the vast majority of criminal activity - at least 70% - takes place between the hours of 8.00 pm and 5.00 am. Sites also need to be adequately prepared for Britain's increasingly unpredictable weather. Said Alan Collinge, Operations Director at RemGuard: "A few simple checks now can avoid headaches later. Undoubtedly, winter is a challenge for any sort of equipment. Just as you would have your car or boiler inspected in anticipation of more challenging conditions, so it makes sense to do the same for remotely monitored, detector activated CCTV. The good news is that by paying attention to a few critical areas, from lighting to foliage, the monitoring of sites should run smoothly even in the depths of winter, without incidents being missed or unnecessary activations being caused." The top five areas to f... [more]
Canadian shopping centres deploy IndigoVision IP video surveillance systems
posted on 18/10/2010
Mapleview Shopping Centre, located in Burlington, Ontario, is the latest Canadian shopping centre to invest in IndigoVision IP Video Surveillance, following on from the successful installation at the company’s Mayfair Mall in Victoria, British Columbia. A number of shopping centres in Canada, owned and managed by Ivanhoe Cambridge, are deploying new video surveillance systems using IndigoVision’s complete end-to-end IP Video security solution. The new 78-camera system was added as part of a $60 million re-development project that included a 100,000 sq. ft. expansion with 20 new retailers. The surveillance system at Mapleview was designed and installed by IndigoVision’s Approved Partner Quinn Digital in partnership with Hoffman & Company Security Management Consultants Inc. It was the first hand experience of IndigoVision’s surveillance technology operating in the Mayfair Shopping Centre that helped the company to decide on its surveillance strategy for Mapleview. Industry focus on Zeus is making it easier for other Trojans to avoid detection
posted on 14/10/2010
The recent industry focus on Zeus is making it easier for other Trojans, like Bugat, SpyEye, and Carberp which are less wide spread but equally sophisticated, to avoid detection. Carberp currently targets nine banks in the United States, Denmark, The Netherlands, Germany, and Israel. These lesser known financial malware platforms are expected to increasingly compete with the Zeus toolkit to become the new Trojan of choice for criminal groups. Trusteer's researchers have discovered a new version of the Bugat financial malware used to commit online fraud. Bugat was distributed in the recent phishing campaign targeting LinkedIn users, which was generally considered to be trying to infect machines with the more common Zeus Trojan. The emergence of this new version of Bugat appears to be an attempt by criminals to diversify their attack tools using a platform that is less well known and therefore harder to detect and block. Bugat is similar in functionality to its better known financial m... [more]
B-Sho biometric readers are specifically designed to integrate seamlessly with Impro access control systems
posted on 13/10/2010
BPT Security Systems (UK) Ltd. has launched the B-Sho biometric readers designed for use with its Impro access control systems. The new B-Sho Biometric readers are one of the most cost-effective biometric solutions on the market in terms of both capital cost and installation, claims BPT. Unlike other biometric readers, B-Sho have been specifically designed to integrate seamlessly with existing Impro access control systems without the need for additional equipment and connect via installer friendly RS485, rather than a TCP/IP network. On sites where no existing IP network exists or can be used, having to install one just to run the access control system is costly, time consuming and requires an additional skill set. Furthermore, B-Sho Readers do not require a separate database, which is the case with the majority of biometric systems. Instead, these advanced Readers use the existing access control database, avoiding the inconvenience of a further database and the need to enter user ... [more]
