Imperva reports web attacks can peak at nearly 38,000 an hour

Imperva, a pioneer and leader of a new category of data security solutions for high-value business data in the data center, today announced the release of the second Imperva Web Application Attack Report (WAAR), which revealed that web applications are subject to business logic attacks. The WAAR, created as a part of Imperva’s ongoing Hacker Intelligence Initiative, offers insight into actual malicious web application attack traffic over a period of six months, June 2011 through November 2011. Imperva monitored and categorized attacks across the internet targeting 40 different applications. Reforms to EU Data Protection laws increase accountability for businesses

Reforms announced today to European data protection laws will force businesses to take more care over the way they store and destroy sensitive and confidential information, says the European head of Shred-it, a leading information destruction company. According to a speech by EU Commissioner Viviane Reding this week, the revised EU Data Protection Directive will see pan-European regulation replacing the existing patchwork of 27 national codes and give citizens the right to control their data. However, the draft new law would also require businesses to take greater steps to demonstrate compliance with data protection regulations and increase the penalties for non-compliance fines potentially reaching up to five per cent of global annual turnover. Currently, in the UK, £500,000 is the largest fine that can be imposed on an organisation for breaching UK data protection laws by the government's data protection watchdog, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). Goldshield Electronic Security acquired AIS Total Security, based in Southglade Business Park, Nottingham. The sale will see AIS become a key part of the Goldshield group as it aims to become the UK’S leading independent provider of fire and security systems. Mike Baines, managing director of AIS, said the new partnership will allow the business to grow quickly by giving access to new market sectors.
