IndigoVision and Fabricom integrate CCTV surveillance, access control and perimeter protection at Belgium airports
posted on 25/06/2010

Charleroi Brussels South and Liège Airports in Belgium have recently deployed integrated IP Video technology from IndigoVision, as part of infrastructure and new passenger terminal projects. The complete security solutions at each airport, which integrate CCTV surveillance with access control, emergency evacuation and perimeter protection, were provided by Fabricom, IndigoVision’s long-standing Partner in the region. IndigoVision’s IP Video technology is suited to the demanding security environment of airports, as it is truly distributed. This allows multiple agencies and departments to access live and recorded video relevant to their operations. In the case of Charleroi and Liège airports, security, baggage handling, maintenance and law enforcement agencies all have access to appropriate video. In both cases new passenger terminals were built alongside existing facilities that used traditional analog CCTV equipment. These systems were interfaced to the new IP Video solution, allowing... New type of blast-proof curtain that gets thicker when stretched could provide better protection from the effects of bomb explosions
posted on 21/06/2010

Blast curtains currently in use essentially consist of thick net-curtain fabric and work in conjunction with an anti-shatter film applied to the window to prevent fragments of glass from tearing the material. A new type of blast-proof curtain that gets thicker, not thinner, when stretched is being developed to provide better protection from the effects of bomb explosions. The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) project is being led by the University of Exeter in collaboration with their spin-out company Auxetix Ltd and three other partners. The new curtain is designed to remain intact and capture debris such as flying glass when windows are blown in. Debris of this kind can cause severe, sometimes life-threatening injuries to people working or living in buildings within a blast zone. The curtain is primarily designed to be fixed over the inside of windows in buildings that are potential terrorist targets, such as Government and high-profile commercial propert... [more]

Cybercrime industry has automated itself to improve efficiency, scalability, and profitability
posted on 18/06/2010

The world of hacking has evolved into two major varieties: industrialized attacks and advanced persistent threats (APT). There has been a lot of discussion around the validity of APT recently - some have even connected APT with panties. But APT is a real threat. So, what’s the difference between APT and industrialized hacking, and how should you respond? Industrialized Hacking Just as the Industrial Revolution advanced methods and accelerated assembly from single to mass production in the 19th century, today’s cybercrime industry has similarly transformed and automated itself to improve efficiency, scalability, and profitability. What are the key characteristics of an industrialized attack? • It’s ROI focused. All parties involved work to increase the bottom-line. Similar to the way a business works to maximize gain with as little investment as possible. • It’s not personal. Automated attacks do not target specific individuals. Rather, they target the masses, both enterpr... [more]
