The terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Video analytics software reviews vast amounts of raw video in real-time, using rules-based object detection, classification and tracking to distinguish suspicious activity from normal activity – and generating alerts that focus on customer-specified important events. Barings is a global investment management firm with offices, clients and business lines spanning the world's major markets. The company traces its origins back to 1762 when it was established as a firm of merchants and merchant bankers. The company has forged a place in history, undertaking such monumental transactions as the finance of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, in which the United States doubled in size by purchasing over one million square miles of territory from France. The Baring Asset Management (Barings) operation was established in London more than 40 years ago. Barings operates two facilities in the London area. The first, in Bishopsgate, City of London, is the company’s worldwide headquarters, housing some 450 staff. As with many of the companies in this area, Barings shares occupancy of their building, renting space across the ninth to twelfth floors. In order to ensure that visitors enjoy the time they spend at the centre, it goes without saying, therefore, that safety and security are high on the agenda. Six months ago, Chubb installed fourteen colour CCTV cameras at the site. They are positioned around the outside of the main buildings, and at key trouble spots, including the disabled car park where there had been problems with unauthorised parking; the pool hall; the equipment and snack vending stores which are often targeted by thieves; and outside the locker room. The cameras are monitored from a central control room in the leisure centre offices except for the one which looks over the terrace outside the bar area. Due to the licensing laws, this one needs to be monitored directly by the bar staff, be... [more]

Net2 access control system protects the Institution of Civil Engineers
posted on 12/03/2007
Net2, the network access control system from Paxton Access Limited, has been installed at the headquarters of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) at One Great George Street in London. Owned by the ICE, in 1989 One George Street became available as a conference and function venue and is now a popular location for conferences, weddings and other functions. This dual role is why Phil Ackers, ICE’s Building Service Manager decided to review the security. He explains, “It is essential that our public areas offer freedom of movement to the people that visit either for business conferences or social occasions. However, it is important that access to our offices and the library is restricted to our directors, staff and members. Our library is the biggest resource in civil engineering in the world and has a large collection of reference books. Some areas were secured by lock and key; this was not convenient as keys get lost and it is expensive and inconvenient to keep replacing locks. ... [more]
