Benefiting from the latest uncooled microbolometer focal plane array technology, operating in the 8-12 µm waveband, the RUBY uses advanced image processing algorithms to provide leading-edge sharp and clear images. Using a focal plane array of 320x240 pixels the RUBY camera offers a best-of-class thermal sensitivity of less than 80mK meaning that an intruder can be detected at a typical range of 1 km. Designed for applications that require portability the lightweight and ergonomic design of the RUBY camera, powered by long life rechargeable batteries, allows operators to use the system over extended periods without discomfort. Operational utility is also aided by binocular viewing and the high brightness and contrast of the IR image display. To extend battery life the RUBY enables special low power and screen saver modes to be act... [more]
House of Fraser standardises on Morley-IAS for its nationwide fire protection needs
posted on 01/05/2003
After extensive research, House of Fraser, the upmarket department store group with more than fifty sites nationwide, has standardised on Morley-IAS fire control panels and instituted a phased roll out of replacements and upgrades across its entire property portfolio. Mike Clare is House of Fraser's Technical Services Manager, having operational responsibility for fire protection across the group. Previously, the choice of fire protection system had been a local decision or more latterly by the M&E consultants appointed for new site development; consequently, the installed base is a disparate assortment of convention and analogue addressable systems from many different manufacturers. With such a mixture, House of Fraser has suffered excessive service and maintenance charges and some equipment was not LPC Approved. House of Fraser has now standardised on Morley-IAS control panels; the first phase of the update is to replace control panels with new Morley-IAS ones interfaced with the exi... [more]

ID2net provides robust distributed fire protection system
posted on 04/04/2003
Notifier has released its new Intelligent Digital Delivery Network, ID2net. It is designed for medium to very large buildings or multiple building campuses such as sports arenas, hospitals, military establishments, high rise buildings and shopping centres where thousands of detectors and I/O modules controlled by multiple fire panels are typically required to protect life and property throughout all areas. ID2net operates independently of the connected fire panels, which, not burdened with additional networking overheads, are 100% dedicated to their primary task of advanced fire alarm detection and processing. ID2net uses ARCnet-based multiple token-passing collision-free software to provide a robust peer to peer system with capacity of up to 100 nodes, managing up to 32 networked ID3000 eight-loop fire alarm panels giving 50,688 addressable points and 8160 network zones. Internodal distances are up to 1700m over Standard or Enhanced copper cables as defined in BS5839-1 2002 or typica... [more]
