Operating since 1981, Abu Dhabi Gas Industries Ltd (GASCO) is a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and one of the biggest industrial projects in the UAE. One of the largest gas processing companies in the world, GASCO has four processing plants including the main Ruwais Fractionation plant which can process 23,370 tonnes per day (7.8 million tonnes per year). CEM Systems has announced that GASCO has chosen the AC2000 SE (Standard Edition) security management system to secure its Ruwais plant. CEM was awarded the contract by Wormald Italiana, Italy. With officials of the Ruwais plant planning to double its capacity in 2008, they decided it was a priority to enhance security, safety and plant operations with the installation of the advanced CEM AC2000 SE (Standard Edition) access control system. Radiation scanning for transhipment and on-dock rail operations
posted on 26/10/2007
In the United States, recent legislation signed by President George Bush requires 100 percent scanning of all containers inbound to the US by 2012. QinetiQ North America (QNA) has teamed with VeriTainer Corporation to provide its radiation scanning solution to ports around the globe. VeriTainer Corp, based in Fremont, CA, has developed the VeriSpreader™, a crane-mounted device that scans containers in real time for dangerous radiation as they are being loaded and discharged from container ships, therein achieving the critical balance of high security and the free flow of commerce. The teaming agreement couples VeriTainer’s technology with QNA’s systems engineering and data analysis capability to deliver scanning technology to the world’s ports. The agreement comes on the heels of VeriTainer's Oakland Pilot Projects, the second of which concludes later this month. The Oakland test programme demonstrated both robustness and efficiency of this technology and its design as more than ... [more]

Toys ‘R’ Us switches to Iris intruder and personal attack alarm monitoring
posted on 22/10/2007
Toys ‘R’ Us is switching the intruder and personal attack alarm monitoring for its total UK estate to Chiron Technology’s Iris system. Adoption of the Iris technology means Toys ‘R’ Us will take advantage of Chiron’s secure IP-based dual-path alarm signalling and should reduce its alarm monitoring bill by around 70% compared with its previous use of existing line protection systems and back-up. The chain has chosen to use the Iris 840 dual-path IP/GPRS signalling system to provide communications between its 73 UK stores and its alarm receiving centre, provided by contract management and monitoring provider SSS Management Services. SSS' NSI-approved ARC, which is accredited to BS5979 and BSEN ISO 9002, includes secure digital-based TCP/IP communications for monitoring of intruder alarms, CCTV, access control and other management systems. The Iris system also offers other significant advantages, including the potential for easy upgrading to include an element of visual verific... [more]
