CCTV technology monitors potential blockages in river drains

Environment Agency staff are in the process of installing solar-powered cameras to monitor trash screens on rivers throughout the North East. This new pilot scheme is using CCTV technology to monitor potential blockages in river drains and help the Environment Agency to better protect communities from flooding. The steel screens trap large items of debris - such as trees, branches and shopping trolleys - to prevent culverts and drains from becoming blocked. At present the screens have to be checked individually on-site but the cameras might save maintenance staff thousands of hours they would otherwise have to spend driving around to carry out routine inspections. As well as cutting carbon emissions by reducing the number of vehicle journeys, using the cameras for regular, routine checks will free up staff for other duties. Praesideo Digital PA and Emergency Sound System installed at Shanghai World Financial Center

Bosch Security Systems’ Digital Praesideo Public Address (PA) and Emergency Sound System is being installed in the prestigious new Shanghai World Financial Center. At 492 meters, the center is currently the world’s third tallest building. The structure features three floors of underground parking and shops, a conference center on floors one to five, offices on floors seven to 77, a hotel on floors 79 through 93, and finally observation and exhibition areas on floors 94 to 100. Construction has taken over ten years and since the events of 9/11 the tower was redesigned to withstand disasters such as a plane crash. Other critical safety features have also been added including twelve fireproof refuge areas and two external elevators. Augusta Systems powers City of Morgantown's municipal public safety network

The City of Morgantown, W.Va., has selected products from Augusta Systems Inc. to power a municipal public safety network that supports a converged, wide-area surveillance system. The public safety network infrastructure integrates city-owned security cameras and sensors and surveillance data from private security systems into a unified network for enhanced public safety in the city. “New technologies can allow for quicker response times by our law enforcement personnel and increased public safety,” said Philip Scott, Morgantown’s chief of police. “Augusta Systems technologies enable us to link current surveillance systems with new cameras and sensors into a unified safety and surveillance network throughout the city, including within our downtown, business district.
