Prison in South Wales supplied with Conway Security Products ' corner-mounted cameras
posted on 09/02/2012

As part of a refurbishment and updating project at a high-security correctional facility in New South Wales, Conway Security Products supplied a large number of their custodial corner-mounted cameras. The project called for Conway’s CM230IR, the standard corner-mounted camera, plus the external CM230IR-EX which has been fitted in the individual exercise yards attached to each high-security cell. Both the CM230IR and CM230IR-EX feature a day/night camera with a wide-angle lens which delivers exceptional room coverage, minimising any chance of blind spots. Conway supplied the units through their Australian partner Techniche Security & Surveillance. Lee Evans, Techniche’s Managing Director, said: “The fact that Conway produce all their units entirely at their own manufacturing base means they can be extremely responsive to specific requirements on major applications such as this one. It was important that Conway were able to supply the second unit [the CM230IR-EX ] with a higher leve... [more]

ISC keeps American football fans safe
posted on 27/01/2012

When up to 12,000 American football fans visited London’s Trafalgar Square for a free promotional event this autumn, crowd management specialist Integrated Security Consultants (ISC) was responsible for ensuring their safety. The event was organised by the USA’s National Football League (NFL) in the run up to the match between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Chicago Bears at Wembley Stadium. ISC also protected visiting celebrities including Hollywood star Cuba Gooding Jr. and the cheerleading team for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. As part of a London-wide publicity campaign for one of the largest matches ever staged by the NFL outside the US, Trafalgar Square hosted a free ‘Movie Night’ on the Friday night, where up to 4,000 fans watched a screening of the film ‘Jerry Maguire’, introduced by Gooding. The following day, a ‘Fan Rally’ was attended by some of the team members, with performances by the cheerleaders, the Chicago Bears’ drummers and NFL Hall of Fame members, plus a display of the... Suspicious signal sources more easily pinpointed thanks to Link Microtek's latest Interference and Direction Analyser
posted on 16/01/2012

Police, security personnel or prison staff now can rely on the new IDA-3106 interference and direction analyser (IDA) from Link Microtek to quickly identify and locate the source of any suspicious transmissions in or near to a particular building. Designed and manufactured by Narda Test Solutions, the new hand-held instrument is available with a choice of three active directional antennas covering the frequency ranges 20 to 250MHz, 200 to 500MHz and 400MHz to 6GHz. Using its integral GPS receiver and the 3D electronic compass built into the antenna handle, the IDA carries out a horizontal scan to establish the position of the signal source and then either displays the relative bearing in a polar diagram or pinpoints the location on a street map, just like a satnav system. The instrument is capable of analysing broadband signals and has a resolution bandwidth of up to 32MHz, which is believed to be unique for a hand-held unit. Its fast scan speed of 12GHz/s allows it to capture in... [more]

Thames Valley protected by Vital Rail Security against cable theft
posted on 13/01/2012

Vital Rail Security (VRS) was contracted to protect Network Rail's Thames Valley Area from metal theft, vandalism and trespass in a trackside security programme between London Paddington and Cholsey in South Oxfordshire. VRS is working with Network Rail and British Transport Police (BTP) to secure this 45-mile route by using qualified Security Industry Authority (SIA) staff and fully-qualified COSS (Controllers of Site Safety) to form teams to patrol the route in marked jointly-branded Network Rail/VRS vehicles. The teams patrol the railway a number of times daily but on an irregular basis to detect and deter dangerous or criminal behaviour, the priority being to stop cable theft from signalling equipment. During patrols, personnel check gates, fencing and infrastructure for theft, damage or evidence of suspicious activity, reporting significant incidents to Network Rail Control in Swindon where dedicated facilities have been made available for this exercise. Close liaison betw... [more]
