i-COMPLY helps protect Edinburgh's council buildings and assets
posted on 06/06/2011

Edinburgh’s occupied and vacant council-owned buildings are being effectively protected around the clock, via a networked solution from i-COMPLY that could lead the way forward for many other authorities across the UK. Frank Macfadden is Edinburgh City Council’s General Manager of Security. Creating a large control facility at Glasgow, heading the Streetwars Glasgow scheme, and over-seeing the installation of more than 400 CCTV cameras across Glasgow city centre, Frank arrived in his new role at Edinburgh looking to consolidate and maximize the resources at his disposal. He explains: “Security management strategies need to come of age. In the past, and when I arrived here at Edinburgh, security for the council’s building network (both used and unused) was seen as an unavoidable outgoing, that couldn’t be reduced. A myriad of private manned-guarding and disparate security technology companies were all vying for an ever-increasing slice of the council’s budget. This had resulted in ind... [more]

Brooknight uses Bconnected's Itrac wireless tracking system to monitor its manned guarding operations
posted on 02/02/2011

Brooknight is using Bconnected’s Itrac wireless tracking system to monitor all its manned guarding operations. The system uses biometric identification via wall-mounted fingerprint readers to monitor guard time and attendance relaying data in real time via GPRS mobile cellular networks. Itrac is particularly beneficial where security personnel are working alone, or where there are larger teams on complex assignments with regular patrols to make. Itrac delivers instant alert notifications if a patrol is missed, or if a team member is unexpectedly absent. Full audit reports are provided in a clear format via web access 24/7 allowing investigation and follow up afterwards. Security officers are identified biometrically using fingerprint scanners, authenticating a unique identity of the individual, the location and time stamp. Each time a security officer logs on data is uploaded via GPRS and processed instantly at the Itrac data centre. Alerts and warnings messages can be sent if pre-d... [more]

New ProxiPen Kit includes tags with a much greater read range enabling them to be concealed behind wallpaper
posted on 28/01/2011

AMAG Technology has updated ProxiPen Kit with tags providing a significantly greater read range. Reliable and effective, the ProxiPen is one of the most robust Guard Patrol Systems available and is used by major security companies around the world. Extremely simple to use, the ProxiPen is favoured as a guard tour verification tool as no operational training is required. The new ProxiPen Kit includes tags with a much greater read range enabling them to be concealed behind wallpaper, plaster and decorative wall coverings, disguising their presence. In many organisations and public buildings there is a requirement to camouflage security measures, making the new tags within the ProxiPen Kit ideal. Dave Ella the Chief Technology Officer of AMAG Technology said “Sales of the ProxiPen Kit continue to increase as it is so simple to operate, and when used in conjunction with the TopGuard Patrol software for guard tour planning and data analysis it provides a comprehensive security applicati... posted on 24/11/2010

Axis Security has won the contract to provide manned guarding at Komatsu UK’s manufacturing facilities in County Durham. The site employs nearly 600 people and covers approximately 202,000 sq metres of land, where medium sized crawler excavators are produced. Axis Security is to provide an around-the-clock presence at the facilities, with its officers charged with patrolling the grounds, controlling entry and monitoring its CCTV. Axis will be making changes to the security provision at Komatsu to include a replacement of the existing guard patrol monitoring system and trained reserved guards to cover the site. Axis Security, which acquired the incumbent provider Temple Security last year, secured the new contract on a seven way competitive tender, as Jackie Lowe, HR Officer at Komatsu UK, explains: “The changes in management that we had started to see since Axis took over from Temple was one of the deciding factors in awarding the contract. If these changes hadn’t happened then Axis w... [more]
