Comodo ID TheftSmart safeguards subscribers from Identity Theft
posted on 25/11/2008

More than 9 million Americans fall victim to identity theft each year according to a Federal Trade Commission 2007 Report. A quickly snatched wallet or hijacked password are all a thief needs to steal an identity. With their victim's personal information, thieves can apply for credit and government documents, forging whole new identities. In response, victims of identity theft spend agonizing hours tracing and disputing the thieves' work. Now Comodo offers ID TheftSmart, which provides an ongoing monitoring service that will alert subscribers to five types of credit activity in their credit file commonly associated with identity theft. ID TheftSmart emails reports if a thief attempts to open a credit line in the subscriber's name. In addition, should you ever become a victim, a licensed personal investigator will assist you in restoring your credit and identity to its pre-theft status. ... [more]

Council official used spyware to spy upon his colleagues
posted on 09/10/2008

A lot of attention is given in the media to external hackers breaking into corporate systems and stealing critical information with spyware. However, there is also a significant risk of internal staff using technology to gain advantage over their co-workers. Tony Trout, a Republican council official in Greenville County, South Carolina, has been arrested by FBI agents investigating spyware found on the council chairman's PC, and made his first court appearance. According to media reports, councilman Trout contends that he was acting within his rights when he installed the spyware on county administrator Joe Kernell’s computer because the Kernell was his employee. He denies accessing county-owned computers belonging to County Council Chairman Butch Kirven. “I was able to access what is going on because he (Kernell) is an employee of mine,” Trout was reported as saying after his house was raided by the FBI in June and computer equipment was seized. “As a county councilman, I have the... Based on a software platform that analyzes electronic text to detect emotions and determine the writer’s state of mind, OI can determine a candidate, client or individual's liability potential by analyzing the credibility and commitment presented in free text. Using a combination of advanced questionnaire and text analysis algorithms, this dynamic online questionnaire automatically responds to the tester's (candidate's) state of mind. In other words, if specific stress levels are detected in the online answers, OI's intricate system automatically generates a series of additional questions. Since questionnaires are based on free text, testers are more likely to respond openly and candidly on a wide variety of topics. This is how OI provides insight i... [more]
