Hat Museum selects Genie to upgrade its internal CCTV camera system
posted on 20/06/2007

Hat Works, the UK’s museum of the hatting industry, has chosen Genie to upgrade its internal CCTV camera system. The equipment was supplied by Genie’s approved local distributor, Wigan based Fire Sound and Security. The design and installation was completed in house by Stockport Council’s wholly owned company, Solutions SK Ltd. Housed in a restored Grade ll listed Victorian Mill in Stockport, Cheshire, which was once appropriately a thriving hat factory, Hat Works is dedicated solely to the hatting industry, hats and headwear. It has been developed as a lottery funded regeneration project and opened to the public for the first time in April 2000. Stockport was one of Manchester's leading hatting towns in its heyday, and the museum focuses on the development of the hatting industry from its humble beginnings as a cottage industry to the mass production of the early 19th century. Live demonstrations of working machinery combined with an extensive collection of hats, stimulating audi... [more]

Rainbow vandal-resistant dome cameras monitor BP petrol stations
posted on 19/06/2007

Vandal-resistant dome cameras from Rainbow are being used at BP petrol stations across the United Kingdom for general surveillance at the company’s forecourts. Installers, Cambridgeshire-based AGE Electrical Services, report that the domes are compact and unobtrusive, meaning the units are unlikely to be struck by high-sided or unusually shaped vehicles as they move around the BP sites. Use of these cameras forms part of BP’s wide-ranging CCTV measures aimed at health & safety, logistics and customer protection as well as securing the properties. The cameras are being used in conjunction with Fusion DVRs from Honeywell. These are four-channel MPEG-4 encoders that accept analogue video and audio signals and convert them into a digital packet-based IP format. The Rainbow equipment has been supplied by the company’s UK distributor, ADI-Gardiner, with whom Rainbow has close ties. AGE Electrical Services is a consultant and installer with particular strength in the closely-regulated pet... [more]

CCTV system in crime scene house for forensic students
posted on 19/06/2007

A police-owned three-bedroom, semi detached house, is being used by the University of Derby as a practical crime scene environment for its forensic students. The crime scene house consists of a control room, two classrooms and nine areas that can be made out as crime scenes (including stairs, stairwell and shower room). Students carry out the procedures they have studied and are observed by their lecturers on a Cathexis digital CCTV system that has been installed throughout the building. Recorded activity is then copied onto DVD and reviewed either in the classroom or in one-to-one sessions. The CCTV system was installed by Circuit Services of Derby, who were briefed by the university to develop and install a system that provided comprehensive and detailed coverage of each crime scene, recorded audio, provided real-time recording and review, was easy to operate and was future-proofed to accommodate expansion and other future developments. Circuit Services worked with CCTV speciali... [more]

Delta Fire and Security Protection designs ITV Granada CCTV system
posted on 18/06/2007

Delta Fire and Security Protection Ltd has designed, in conjunction with its main supplier ADI-GARDINER, a large CCTV installation for ITV Granada. Besides providing full connectivity to a network of new and existing CCTV cameras throughout the Manchester site, the project included linkage and remote operation for the two main Granada hi-tech security lodges. The project linked many separate systems into one which gave security staff multiplex viewing across the whole site and incorporated a range of new PTZ and Dome cameras. The infrastructure proposed by ADI-GARDINER was designed to accommodate a change from RS485 twisted pair telemetry to coaxial telemetry protocols. Delta Sales Director Scott Jones asked ADI-GARDINER to thoroughly review the existing Granada systems and create a complete plan of the changes and equipment necessary for an integrated and upgradeable system. “All the antiquated elements were removed and upgraded with the latest state-of-the-art technology from o... GE Security designs remote monitoring and alert system for Securitas alarms
posted on 15/06/2007

Securitas wanted to offer their existing and future customers remote monitoring of their Alarm systems, so they approached GE Security to develop a new system with this capability. As GE’s lead partner for this technology, they defined the specifications together for a system which would include a key module to allow the monitoring of buildings in remote areas that lacked fixed-line telephone connection. The system would be able to send alarm alerts and video alerts from remote sites, speeding up response times and reducing unnecessary responses to false alarms from more than 10,000 network installations spread throughout Scandinavia and Europe. For this, GE Security needed to develop a GSM and GPRS reporting module. They chose Alpha Micro to assist them with this aspect of the development due to Alpha’s expertise in this field and the successful completion of past projects. GE Security with help from Alpha Micro designed a complex communication module called the CS7002. It is a m... [more]
