Moving CCTV surveillance onto the network infrastructure
posted on 01/08/2007
Video surveillance is big business. With an estimated 4.2 million CCTV cameras operating in the UK – roughly one camera for every 14 people – we are the most watched country in the Western world. The benefits to society and to business of CCTV are well documented – it’s made a real difference in cutting crime in our towns and within business, especially within the retail, financial and manufacturing sectors. However, the traditional videotape approach to surveillance does have its downsides, including expensive installation and running costs, easily disposable and corruptible tapes, and poor picture quality impeding prosecution. The good news is that there is a way of simultaneously reducing your surveillance costs whilst getting an altogether more intelligent, focused CCTV system capable of monitoring and protecting key areas of your business in a more proactive way, by using your existing IP network infrastructure. Switching on to IP CCTV – the business benefits The concept ... [more]
Hybrid IP Surveillance Solution for Chinese Oil Field
posted on 30/07/2007
Chang-Chin oil field belongs the enterprise that runs large-scale oil field under PetroChina Limited in Xi'an. The whole oil field and factory are controlled directly by the local Police Department, which needed stable video quality for real-time monitoring which can overcome the restrain of distance. The local Police Department off Xi-An province in China has chosen ACTi network video server, SED-2120T, as a first-stage remote monitoring solution for the oil field and factory in their district. Given the sizeof the oil field, each camera site is very far apart. 19 analoge speed domes were spread throughout the oil field, each connected to a video server, SED-2120T, which can sustain temperature form -30C~70C. The video stream and RS-485 data are first transmitted from each analogue speed dome to the video server beside, and then via LAN, all the video and data were passed on to the remote control center via the optic fiber of 1G bandwidth. SAN is located at the control center t... [more]
Alnet's Net Station support up to 64 cameras and gives opportunity to steer PTZ by mobile phone.
posted on 19/07/2007
Alnet Systems released new software which installed on PC transforms it into NVR. Application cooperates with up to 64 cameras in which up to 32 can be analog cameras and remaining 32 network cameras. All 64 cameras can be connected in IP technology of course. A feature that will be of particular interest to installers is that they can easily expand existing analog installations and incorporate them into network technology. Thanks to the differential image compression method the image can be transmitted through low bandwidth media like GSM / GPRS with exceptional good quality of the picture. In result PTZ dome can be viewed and steered from mobile phone. In relation to other compresion methods more data can be stored on the seme hard drive size. Systems can be tuned to record movement only. "System require minimum of user's activity but gives him opportunity to connect with server and view cameras through network from any part of the world,"said Nickolas Czuba Alnet's Sales Manager. ... Wireless IP surveillance for city monitoring in Poland
posted on 17/07/2007
ACTi IP cameras and Milestone XprotectEnterprise have been installed in Wodzislaw Slaski, which is the first IP surveillance project for city monitoring. The aim of the project was to improve safety of citizen and reducing defect of road offences with the development of this city. Because of critical bandwidth and good video quality demand, SUMA chose ACTi products as the best solution to fulfill the city requirements. The city decided to use wireless technology due to the distance problem (from camera sites to monitoring center is 300 – 1500m). However, the video quality should be as good as analogue solution. ACTi MPEG-4 ASP compression technology can reduce the size of recording file. "Using ACTi products can reduce the requirements of disc spaces, which save the cost of storage size" said engineer Rafal Chmielewski, from SUMA. There were 6 ACTi cameras installed in this project, which were IP speed domes (CAM-6610). Each ACTi IP camera works with wireless devices. The insta... [more]
