Technical Surveillance Counter Measures protect against wiretapping and telephone bugging
posted on 28/09/2006

Telephone conversations are vulnerable. There are many tools available to track and listen into private mobile telephone and landline conversations. There is no way to guarantee private conversations without the use of end-to-end encryption. If telephone conversations have potentially high value it would be negligent not to implement serious protection measures. In Rome, a massive case of illegal wiretapping and illicit data gathering is sending shivers across Italy, with politicians warning that perpetrators represent a threat to democracy and are ready to "blackmail the country and individuals, selling secrets to the highest bidder." Romano Prodi's government approved a decree that includes stiff fines for those who make public the contents of the illegally monitored conversations. The probe into the alleged spy ring is the latest case, in a nation that has a history of wiretapping scandals, continues with the questioning of key suspects behind bars. Prosecutors questio... SANYO CCTV cameras allow nurses to keep a close watch on patients without having to leave their central staff base
posted on 28/09/2006

CCTV cameras supplied by SANYO are being used to monitor hospital patients in the intensive care and high dependency units at the newly expanded Royal Blackburn Hospital in East Lancashire. Installed by Romers Electronics, who have recently been acquired by TG Baker (Sound) Ltd, the cameras allow nurses to keep a close watch on patients without having to leave their central staff base on each ward, freeing up their time for other important duties. As the existing on-site security maintenance provider, Romers won a tendered contract to install additional cameras as part of a multi-million pound Private Finance Initiative (PFI) extension designed to bring together all of the services at what had been known as Queens Park Hospital, as well as the nearby Blackburn Royal Infirmary. The Infirmary has closed down following a decision by East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust to merge the two hospitals on a single site. The move has necessitated construction of a new security control room and... [more]

AMG Fibre Optic CCTV Transmission System integrates Ethernet, Low Speed Data and Uncompressed Real-Time Video
posted on 28/09/2006

AMG Systems integrates Ethernet, low speed data, audio and high quality uncompressed video into a single fibre optic transmission system, with the launch of the second generation Guardian-LiteT 3700/4700 series. The patented technology is suited to wide area CCTV systems, including highway incident management, transport infrastructure surveillance, campus environments and perimeter security. The drop-and-insert 3700 series and the point-to-point 4700 series share AMG's unlimited collection node and dual redundancy technology. In the event of catastrophic damage to the fibre optic cable, the AMG equipment automatically re-routes the video, data, audio and Ethernet signals to maintain connectivity. These self-healing capabilities are particularly relevant to round the clock surveillance operations and are not achieved by sacrificing video quality. Unlike SDH, MJPEG and Video over IP solutions, Guardian-Lite does not compress the video signal, making high-quality, real-time video ... [more]

To help bolster crime-prevention efforts, the Campinas government has partnered with Bosch Security Systems to create a high-tech monitoring system designed to keep both citizens and visitors safe. Located in the Brazilian state of São Paulo, Campinas is a city, a county, and a home to more than one million people – over 98 percent of whom live in the urban region. Campinas is a rapidly growing industrial and financial area of Brazil, the processing and distribution center for a diversified agricultural region, and a major transportation hub. The security system is managed centrally through the new Center for Integrated Monitoring, where six to ten specially trained members of the municipal police force monitor the traffic and urban areas around the city. They report any suspicious activities, problems or traffic accidents to the police in the field or other public authorities for immediate action. Each operator was specially trained to use the variety of Bosch solutions implemen... [more]
