Security van robberies like the one at Heathrow yesterday morning may never totally become a thing of the past. But the rapid recovery of the stolen property and the apprehension of the criminal could become much easier in a couple of months. The technology to track objects such as security vans and cash boxes inside buildings, and for cash boxes inside vehicles, exists and is being rolled out across the greater London region. Originally developed to track crocodiles in Australia it doesn't rely on being able to see a satellite in the way GPS does. The agreement will see QuikTrak technology incorporated into cash boxes and will be the first time a cash box can be tracked and located wherever it is in use. The project planning for Phase 1 of the QuikTrak network is complete and everyth... [more]
