Group 4 Securicor appointed official supplier of security to the Visa Paralympic World Cup

Group 4 Securicor (UK Security) was appointed as the official supplier of security to the first ever Visa Paralympic World Cup. The four day event, which took place in Manchester from 12th-15th May, involved 44 nations competing across four sports: athletics, swimming, track cycling and wheelchair basketball. Group 4 Securicor (UK Security) provided stewarding, accreditation checks and assisted in the movement of spectators, the press, VIPs and athletes between the four venues. Paul Bullen, Director of Events at Group 4 Securicor (UK Security) said: “We felt honoured to have the opportunity to provide the security for the first Visa Paralympic World Cup. All events have unique aspects that required our security expertise to be delivered in different ways. Conference warns of dangers of exemptions from the Private Security Industry Act 2001 for the football industry

Rumours that the football industry is seeking to get exemption from the Private Security Industry Act 2001 cause serious concern in the private security industry. This warning was given at a conference on the Private Security Industry Act 2001 looking into the impact of regulation. Held at Pride Park Football Stadium, Derby, it was one of 30 events being organised by Reliance Security Services to promote a greater understanding of the implications of the Act amongst businesses, retailers, the public sector and the private security industry. Opening the speeches, David Dickinson the Chief Executive of the British Security Industry Association, warned that there are rumours that the football industry is seeking to get exemption from the Act. “The Act provides for such exemption where the standards are equal or better than those which the SIA propose. ISSEE launches explosives awareness training courses for banks

The International School for Security and Explosives Education (ISSEE) has developed a series of Explosives Awareness training courses aimed at senior bank executives and bank security managers concerned about the potential threat from Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), or terrorist weapons and bombs. The courses, which run at the School in Tidworth, Wiltshire, provide a comprehensive overview of the subject in a range of course options. Professor Alan Hatcher, the School’s Principal, said: “We want institutions such as banks to understand that explosives awareness training is every bit as relevant to them as it is to the military or police.
