i-Evo biometric readers can scan through dirt, dust, water and even some latex gloves
posted on 13/05/2011

Lumidigm multispectral fingerprint sensors capture fingerprint data beneath the surface of the skin so that dryness or even damaged or worn fingers create no problems for reliable reads. Using multiple wavelengths of light and advanced polarization techniques to extract unique fingerprint characteristics from both the surface and subsurface of the skin, Lumidigm’s sensors provide results that are more consistent, more inclusive and more tamper resistant than conventional biometric readers in all types of environments. As a result, i-Evo biometric readers can scan through dirt, dust, high ambient light, water and even some latex gloves. At IFSEC, i-Evo will show attendees why fingerprint biometrics are now being used on construction sites by UK contractor Willmott Dixon, in medical labs, on heavy equipment and many other places heretofore considered not appropriate for the technology. Attendees will see fingerprints being verified under water and even wearing latex gloves. i-Evo bio... [more]

Do not to be complacent about squatting
posted on 19/04/2011

When a £40m building between High Holborn and Oxford Street was recently taken over by partygoers, the building was occupied for nearly 48 hours until the trespassers finally called an end to the party, leaving behind a repair bill costing tens of thousands of pounds. There have also been documented cases of commercial properties being stripped out, suffering over £150,000 of damage. Following the Ministry of Justice’s announcement that it is to urgently review legislative changes to make squatting illegal, VPS, the Vacant Property Specialist, is advising property owners and managers both not to be complacent and that prevention is the best deterrent against squatting. While VPS welcomes the Government’s action to speed up eviction, it is warning vacant property owners and managers that new legislation may not reduce the damage and clean-up costs that squatters can often leave behind, as the majority of damage is caused in the first 48 hours of occupation. According to VPS, the ba... [more]

Net2 Caller ID reader opens doors remotely using a phone as the key
posted on 18/04/2011

The new Net2 Caller ID reader from Paxton Access allows a door to be opened remotely using a phone as the key. For use in conjunction with Paxton's Access , the Net2 Caller ID reader enables phones to be used as Net2 tokens. Communicating either via a mobile phone network or landline, an existing Net2 reader will accept a call from a phone in the same way it would a token being presented, to grant door access accordingly. Using the Net2 Caller ID reader, users can open a door at even the most remote of sites, and from any location, without having to be physically present to swipe a token. The new reader is an ideal product for securing access to sites that are hard to reach, and offers customers the potential to save considerable time and money on manned guarding and security call outs. It also removes the cost and inconvenience of distributing tokens to visitors and users that only need to access a site occasionally. Once a user's mobile phone has been registered as a token, a landli... [more]
