posted on 09/01/2008
Abloy UK has launched Smartair electronic locks, an off-line access control system suited to smaller sites, initially to a hand-picked selection of the country’s top installers. Abloy UK commercial director Tabitha Morton explains the thinking behind this novel launch strategy: “Installers are an extremely important element within the commercial security market, and it was very clear to us that they merited their own pre-launch activity for this important, mid-range addition to Abloy UK’s access control portfolio. “Once we have fully briefed this initial group of around 15 installers, we hope to add a further 50 installers to our Smartair access control system network. I would be happy to hear from any installers eager to take advantage of the opportunities brought about by this latest addition to our range of access control products and systems.” Smartair electronic locks are a robust and cost-effective access control option particularly suited to smaller office buildings. George House in York is the office and meeting centre base for The Children’s Society’s PACT (Participation, Advocacy, Consultation, Training) Project and is frequently used by disabled children and young people. As part of a recent refurbishment project, automatic door operators were fitted to the main external door and to the offices, meeting room and kitchen doors, in order to give disabled visitors easy entry into and passage through the building. Julie Crosby, Administration Manager for The Children’s Society in York, explains: “PACT's aim is to ensure that disabled children and young people have their wishes and feelings taken into consideration in decision-making processes. As a result of our participation work, we get a lot of disabled children and young people coming to George House and it is essential that the premises is DDA compliant and fully accessible.” To help them meet this specialised access requirement, The Children’s Society’s Regional Buildings Surveyor Chris L... APT SkiData is working with Ez-Assure to provide electronic locks for its pay-on-foot pay stations. Ez-Assure offers a web-based management solution for controlling physical access via electronic keys and locks. APT Skidata’s pay stations can be fitted with electronic lock cores which replace the traditional locks. One key can be programmed to unlock the front door, the internal locks on the notebook and cash box and all other internal locks, on multiple pay stations. The battery operated electronic keys are pre-programmed with access permissions so that access can be authorised and restricted accordingly. For example, the key can be set to only unlock the front door – granting access to the ticket coder to fix paper jams. The electronic locks, together with the web-based administration centre provides comprehensive online reporting and a complete audit trail of all events for total security management. Access permissions can be scheduled and key expirations set so that they are dis... [more]
