CCTV should be used for crime fighting not motoring offences
posted on 23/11/2006

With one CCTV camera for every 14 people in the UK, Britons are caught on camera at least once every five minutes. Nevertheless, the majority (88 per cent) of the population are happy for CCTV to be used to fight crime. However, people are more ambivalent when it comes to using CCTV to catch drivers committing motoring offences. 58 per cent were in favour of monitoring car tax evaders, whilst 54 per cent lent their support to its use against speeding offenders. While Britons are quite happy for CCTV to be used to prevent car related crimes such as car theft, driving offences are much lower on their priority list. Eighty two per cent of respondents said CCTV should be used for tracking stolen cars, but only 30 per cent supported its use in enforcing the Congestion Charge. In addition: * 76 per cent of respondents believed CCTV should be used to find missing people * 70 per cent were in favour of using it for crowd control * 79 per cent would employ it to prevent sho... posted on 20/11/2006

Capital Eye has recently completed a major project in Nigeria to protect a high-profile crackdown into fraud and money laundering scams, with the support of UK Trade & Investment Team South East. 419 frauds, which are so called after a Nigerian Act of Parliament, target firms or individuals with an unsolicited fax, email, or letter emanating from Nigeria or another African nation. Usually they contain either a money laundering scam or some other illegal commodity deals. At some point, the victim may be asked for an up-front advance fee of some sort and if they do pay, they are told "complications" require still further payments until the victim either quits, runs out of money, or both. Capital Eye completed a comprehensive security assessment for a European Union team investigating notorious '419' scams emanating from West Africa - which has victims across the world. Capital Eye's security assessment team scrutinised the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission headquarte... [more]

Intercede Wins Additional US Federal Government HSPD-12 Compliance Contracts for MyID Technology
posted on 20/11/2006

HSPD-12 is one of the most important and high profile security directives of recent years. It was issued by President Bush in August 2004 and required, firstly, the creation of an official federal standard (FIPS-201) for Personal Identity Verification (PIV), which would prescribe technologies and processes for the effective vetting and access control of all federal employees and contractors. The second requirement of HSPD-12 was for every US Federal Agency to have implemented a PIV solution by the end of October 2006, with all employees and contractors required to have a personal-201 compliant, smart card based identity card one year later. All HSPD-12 solutions must by mandate only incorporate products that have been exhaustively tested against by the US General Services Administration (GSA), and included in the GSA’s Approved Product List for PIV products. It is estimated that almost 8 million identity cards will be issued under HSPD-12. Industry analysts Stanford Group estima... [more]
