According to Symantec’s Global Internet Security Report, email accounts are the third most popular item for sale on sites that sell valuable stolen information, behind credit card numbers and bank account details. The report also notes that attackers are concentrating on victimizing consumers for financial gain. Many people now store financial, medical, personal, and other sensitive information in their email accounts. Millions of email accounts are hacked every year.
