Their only interest: Making money. “The era of script kids, playing around with viruses and worms for fun has come to an end. Nowadays, a whole industry of highly organised cyber gangsters has taken their place” explains David Emm, Senior Technology Consultant, Kaspersky Lab UK. “Education regarding the current level of delinquency on the Internet is extremely important to users of all ages. Sophos NAC Advanced defends against the risks of unknown PCs trying to access the Great Yarmouth and Waveney NHS Primary Care Trust network
posted on 18/02/2009
Great Yarmouth and Waveney NHS Primary Care Trust serves a population of more than 200,000. Given the rise in remote working and guests, including both contractors and patients, wishing to connect to the Trust’s network either for work purposes or simply for browsing the web, Great Yarmouth and Waveney NHS needed a solution that would enable it to control this access and ensure that every device met a baseline of IT policies. After performing a risk assessment, the Trust decided that a NAC solution was the best fit for its needs. Great Yarmouth and Waveney NHS Primary Care Trust (PCT) in East Anglia has deployed Sophos NAC Advanced to defend against the risks of unknown PCs trying to access the network. In addition, Great Yarmouth and Waveney NHS’ new NAC (Network Access Control) solution enables the Trust to ensure that all of its own PCs and laptops are up to date with security patches and anti-virus protection, as well as setting appropriate access levels dependent on the employee... GW is a private university founded by an Act of Congress in 1821, and is the largest university in the District of Columbia with more than 20,000 undergraduate and graduate students. With the firm belief that productivity increases with the freedom to work anywhere, GW offers its students, faculty, and staff secure access to the wireless network from their classrooms, offices, dorms - just about anywhere they go on campus. Mobile data breaches are on the rise but they could be prevented
posted on 10/02/2009
Endpoints continue to be one of the elements within IT infrastructure most vulnerable to attack, and threats through applications are actually mushrooming. Data breaches are on the rise, according figures from the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), with a total of 99 incidents taking place since November 2008, compared to 277 breaches in the past twelve months. As data becomes more mobile, so do the dangers of security breaches, from worm attacks to laptop and USB losses. Yet, security breaches such as these are completely preventable, so long as an adequate solution is put in place. “It is critical that organisations not only plan and budget for the implementation of security technologies and the development of the policy itself, but also for a robust awareness and training program to support it,” comments Alan Bentley, VP of Strategic Business Unit, Vulnerability Management for Lumension. “Keeping the data within organisations safe requires the implementation of not just...
