Majority of UK businesses believe security is the biggest threat to cloud computing
posted on 21/05/2009
71 per cent of UK businesses think security is the biggest threat to cloud computing, according to a survey of IT bosses by SecurEnvoy. Over three-quarters of the respondents would be concerned if their company’s data was stored somewhere outside of the office – as only 12 per cent store data on the cloud. The survey of IT experts found that 55 per cent had to take a day or more off work during the ‘big freeze’ in February this year and 70 per cent have to work from home at least once a month or more. “The demand for remote working is definitely on the up, whether it’s for personal reasons or emergency situations like the snowfall back in February,” commented Steve Watts, co-founder at SecurEnvoy. “Cloud computing allows remote workers to access networks from any location but security has always been an issue. These results confirm this fear, as many companies are still reluctant to invest in cloud computing,” he added. “It’s therefore important to implement strategies that will h... [more]
Seafish ensures it is no longer vulnerable to security breaches with DeviceLock
posted on 15/05/2009
Seafish is a Non-Departmental Public Body (NDPB) sponsored by the four UK government fisheries departments and funded by a levy on seafood. The authority works across all sectors of the seafood industry to promote good quality, sustainable seafood. With over 70 per cent of the organization working remotely, Seafish was experiencing an increase in the number of viruses that were coming into the company through USB devices. It was also committed to comply with government legislation pertaining to the loss of personal and business critical data. DeviceLock, Inc. has announced that Seafish has chosen DeviceLock® software to establish comprehensive control over employee access to local ports and peripheral devices on the authority’s endpoint computers to reduce the risk of external viruses. “Having adopted DeviceLock, Seafish is now compliant with government requirements on secure remote working - as a non departmental public body that is very important for us,” said John Watson, senior ... NomaDesk File Sharing Software allows professionals to securely store and access files from wherever they are
posted on 23/04/2009
NomaDesk has announced the launch of the 3.0 version of its day-today file sharing service. The software allows geographically dispersed professionals to store files, sync, secure, access, transfer, and eventually share them from wherever they are, on or off-line. The NomaDesk solution is an alternative to traditional file sharing tools, which often lack mobility and the adequate security to go with it. Designed for digital nomads who either work independently or in small or medium-sized enterprises, the new version of NomaDesk’s solution features TheftGuard™ technology, which allows users to shred files from a distance. When a laptop is stolen, the user is typically no longer logged on, and therefore, the data on the hard drive is invisible, inaccessible and encrypted. However, if the password has been stolen or the laptop is stolen while the user is still logged on, NomaDesk can remove the data at the user’s request remotely. The information stored on the laptop is never lost, as it is... [more]

posted on 14/04/2009
Mobile employees who spend more time onsite with the customer than in the office are a challenge for any company: Their mobile devices need to be protected from Cybercrime threats outside the company network with the same effectiveness as if they were sitting at their desk in the office. Kaspersky Lab has announced the release of Kaspersky Hosted Web Security Services/Anywhere+ designed to protect mobile employees working outside the company network from Cybercrime threats in real-time. The solution enables SMBs and their IT administrators to easily enforce security policies on mobile devices while allowing transparent time and cost management. “Market researchers forecast a strong growth in mobile employees over the next two years as well as an increase in employees placed onsite with the customer rather than working from their company’s office”, explains Günter Fuhrmann, Director Hosted Security, Kaspersky Lab. “By 2009 mobile workers in the U.S. are expected to account for more tha...
