Is Loaphobia causing workers to fear losing their jobs?
posted on 21/05/2012
19% missed a critical deadline because they couldn’t access the right applications, 14% lost a job and 6% missed a promotion Avecto, the leader in Windows privilege management, revealed the results of its recent research that found a fear in the workforce of not being able to hit deadlines, missing promotions or losing their jobs due to ‘loaphobia’ (Lack-Of-Application-Phobia). This fear is well founded as the research found that 19% have missed a critical deadline as a result of being denied full access to an application, 14% lost a job and 6% missed a promotion. Avecto COO Paul Kenyon explained, “We always knew that there would be a significant impact on businesses if they mismanage user admin rights– security breaches, people accessing data after they leave or expensive help desk calls. This survey also reveals the shocking impact on individuals. Perhaps this ‘loaphobia’ will be the next big thing worrying the UK’s workforce?” Further key findings of the research showed that:... Smartphone consigned to history
posted on 18/05/2012
As hard as it seems to believe, the mobile phone was introduced to the UK in 1985 for the first time. As comapred to those Motorola handsets, the devices we now love are hardly recognizable. And it’s not just the size and battery life that’s changed. Let’s face it, if you were to upgrade your handset tomorrow, would you just be looking for one that can make calls! Considered the top executive toy, the mobile phone became the status symbol of the Yuppie - short for "young urban professional" or "young upwardly mobile professional". Today, with more handsets than people on the planet, it’s changing more than the way we communicate, but consigning some parts of every day life to the history books. Making calls: It’s almost easy to forget, especially with increasing functionality, but the primary reason for having a mobile phone is for making and receiving phone calls. Spare a thought then for the humble phone box. Last year, BT announced that almost a quarter of phone boxes in Wales wer... [more]
TeleSign Brings Enhanced PhoneID 2.0 Product to the U.K. and Germany
posted on 18/05/2012
TeleSign, a market leader in Internet fraud prevention and Intelligent Authentication, has announced an upgrade of its PhoneID solution for the United Kingdom and Germany. Online businesses use PhoneID to automate fraud prevention and protect against spam and fraudulent activity. TeleSign’s patented PhoneID technology enables companies to identify risky transactions by analysing and reporting a set of key attributes associated with a phone number. This information includes phone type such as landline, mobile including pre and post paid data as well as VoIP numbers, registration location information and other many other parameters. Since higher rates of fraud are associated with specific types of phone numbers, such as anonymous, location- independent telephone numbers, businesses are provided additional levels of intelligence where they can quickly decide to flag or block transactions from these phone types. Anonymous phone types, such as certain types of VoIP and prepaid mobiles, are... [more]

'Cloud Security can be resolved easily,' say IT experts.
posted on 17/05/2012
SecurEnvoy commented on research claiming to show that 53pc of senior IT professionals in the public and private sector are convinced that cloud computing is too insecure for their business use, saying that this perception problem is almost certainly down to cumbersome security and authentication technologies. According to Steve Watts, co-founder of the tokenless two factor authentication specialist, the problem with cloud computing is that the security mechanisms required to secure data as it flows into the cloud – and, perhaps more importantly, when it flows out from the cloud – are both cumbersome and difficult to change. “Encryption technology is now relatively easy to deploy and maintain, but authenticating users tends to be viewed as dependant on a hardware token that must be carried around by the user. And no token invariably means no access. Add in the fact that solving problems takes a finite period of time, and the convenience of the cloud rapidly becomes an inconvenience,” ... [more]
