CNL Software's IPSecurityCenter(tm) PSIM choosen by Louisiana National Guard for integrated command and control
posted on 15/02/2012

Lousiana National Guard (LNG) chooses CNL Software to offer Centralized Integrated Situation Management. It will allow security operators and Military Police at LNG to manage access alarms, intruder alarms, associated CCTV images and Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) from a central command center control room along with deployed client workstations located on base. The IPSecurityCenter solution offers centralized control of security assets providing complete visibility and management of the entire security operation over LNG’s 74 units, across 43 cities and towns, protecting more than fifty million dollars of Army and Air Force equipment. It enables LNG administrators to maintain and configure the system through user-friendly configuration GUIs. Pre-defined standard operating procedures, reports and charts bring risk a... [more]

Mobile hack attacks to increase with SDR adoption
posted on 13/02/2012

Digital Assurance, the independent security assessment and information assurance consultancy, today warned that mobile communications operating over radio systems such as GSM, WiMax and DECT are likely to become more heavily targeted as Software Defined Radio (SDR) technology becomes more sophisticated, cheaper and more widely available. Those attempting to compromise wireless communications systems in the past have used expensive equipment coupled with advanced signal analysis skills. In contrast, SDR devices typically use a standard PC to capture and manipulate radio spectrum potentially allowing an attacker to capture and demodulate advanced radio systems which were previously inaccessible to the hacking community. Common barriers to mobile attacks such as frequency hopping and advanced modulation techniques can be quickly overcome using this off-the-shelf hardware and software. Developed initially by military and intelligence agencies in the 70’s and 80’s, current commercial SDR tec... [more]

Tenable comments on the state of security for SCADA systems
posted on 10/02/2012

Recently, at the Kaspersky Security Analyst Summit, researchers presented some alarming findings about the state of security for SCADA systems. SCADA systems are used across varied industries such as oil, water systems, electric grids, controlling building systems, and according to the researchers at the summit, the basic security model underlying these systems is completely inadequate. Tenable, leader in Unified Security Monitoring and creator of the Nessus vulnerability scanner comments : “There are two breakdowns in design when it comes to SCADA. 1) Many of these services and protocols were not designed with security in mind. They were to be deployed on closed systems only to be accessed by control systems with a focus on reliability. Many of these systems are connected to networks, sometimes the Internet directly, and this exposes poor designs to potential attacks. 2) When security issues are found, getting them deployed can be very difficult because the process is proprietary, th...
