Top 5 Authentication Predictions for 2012
posted on 16/12/2011
As we quickly approach 2012, we thought it would be interesting to look ahead at what we think will be the major trends in authentication next year, as well as some of the specific attacks that we think will happen in 2012 as a result of poor authentication standards. Below are the top five authentication predictions for 2012, from Confident Technologies. 1. BYOMD (bring your own mobile device) will spell big trouble for businesses in terms of data loss in 2012. Employees and contractors are increasingly bringing their personal smartphones and tablets to work and using the devices for a blend of personal and business related activities. 2012 will bring even more of this and we’ll see a few high-profile incidents of enterprise data loss resulting from allowing employees to connect their personal mobile devices to the company network without proper security protocols in place. The end result will be more businesses enforcing stricter authentication and security policies, particula... [more]
ForeScout Technologies Recognised as a Leader in the 2011 Magic Quadrant for Network Access Control
posted on 15/12/2011
ForeScout Technologies announced this week that it has been positioned in the “Leaders” quadrant of Gartner, Inc.’s “Magic Quadrant for Network Access Control.”1 The Magic Quadrant analysis is based on Gartner’s assessment of a company’s completeness of vision and ability to execute. According to Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Network Access Control2, leaders are successful in selling large NAC implementations (10,000 nodes and greater) to multiple large enterprises. Leaders are pure-play NAC vendors or networking and/or security companies that have been first to market with enhanced capabilities as the market matures. Leaders have the resources to maintain their commitment to NAC, have strong channel strength and have financial resources. They have also demonstrated a strong understanding of the future direction of NAC, including the impact of BYOD and guest networking. Leaders should not equate to a default choice for every buyer, and clients should not assume that they must buy only fro... [more]
ENISA launches report on proactive detection of cyber security incidents to make “digital fire-brigades” more effective
posted on 14/12/2011
The European Network and Information Security Agency launched last week a report which identifies 16 shortcomings in detection of network security incidents. The report reveals that not all available tools are used widely enough by the "digital fire-brigades", the Computer Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) to effectively fight cyber threats. Therefore, the Agency issues 35 recommendations to data providers, data consumers, and at EU/national levels to mitigate the shortcomings. The study has identified that the CERTs are currently not fully utilizing all possible external sources at their disposal. Similarly, many CERTs neither collect, nor share incident data about other constituencies with other CERTs. This is concerning, as information exchange is key to effectively combating malware and malicious activities, which is extremely important in fighting cross-border cyber threats. Shortcomings. The 16 shortcomings in detection of incidents are examined in depth. Top technical gaps inclu... [more]
