University of Bath students protect valuable equipment with SelectaDNA

Many new students will be leaving home for the first time and turning up with an array of gadgets including a laptop, digital camera, smart phone, games console and either an iPod or MP3 player. According to research by the National Union of Students (NUS) and insurance provider Endsleigh, students are taking possessions worth an average of £2,652 to university. More than four out of five students will be taking a laptop, 14% will take a desktop computer, and 4% a tablet PC in the new academic year. The survey also found that every student had a mobile phone, with 59% taking a smart phone. The 2,500 students arriving at the University of Bath later this month will be encouraged to ensure their possessions are well-protected by marking their valuable equipment with SelectaDNA. Kaspersky Lab's new Russian patent increases the efficiency of file system emulation

Kaspersky Lab technologies are currently protected by 40 patents in Russia and 29 patents in the USA. Furthermore, the patent offices in the USA, Russia, China and Europe are currently examining more than 100 Kaspersky Lab patent applications relating to a range of unique IT security technologies. Kaspersky Lab has been granted Russian patent № 105770 that covers technology for emulation of a file system or system registry. The technology, developed by Kaspersky Lab’s Andrey Krukov, significantly increases the efficiency of file system emulation thanks to new architecture. The new technology will considerably enhance the performance of the system that emulates the launch of applications and is widely used in Kaspersky Lab products to detect potentially dangerous codes. SunGard Availability Services open new Workplace Recovery centres in India

SunGard Availability Services has announced its expansion into India with two new dedicated Workplace Recovery facilities. The opening of the new centres follows the signing of a dedicated workplace recovery contract with a major international bank, and aims to meet the demand from international businesses for high levels of resilience for their key operations, whereby mission critical, off-shore or outsourced business processes are protected according to business value, not just location. The Workplace Recovery centres are located in Thane, near Mumbai, and Noida, near New Delhi. Built to the latest design standards, the facility at Noida will offer over 400 workplace recovery positions and is ideally placed to serve businesses in Delhi, Noida and Gurgaon.
