COE to supply codecs to Transport for London
posted on 17/10/2007

COE Limited has announced that it has won a competitive contract to supply codecs to Transport for London (TfL) and has been sole supplier of codecs for extensive trials by TfL staff. These trials have proved the use of MPEG-4 compressed video for several applications within TfL. The COE X-Net MPEG-4 codec won TfL’s selection process and COE was contracted to provide codecs and support for several trials within TfL. These included urban traffic light control, traffic police enforcement, and providing high quality video to users across the organisation. Key criteria included high video quality, the breadth of control provided to users by the COE codec, and COE’s continuing development of the codec software. COE’s X-Net codec is the fourth generation COE development which has been successfully installed in high profile systems including the entire Singaporean underground network, Strasbourg and Mulhouse city centres and UK wireless city surveillance schemes. The open systems approac... [more]

DVTel NVMS provides video surveillance to the North Carolina State University campus
posted on 15/10/2007

DVTel, Inc., has announced that North Carolina State University (NC State) has deployed the DVTel Latitude Network Video Management System (NVMS) to provide video surveillance throughout the entire campus. SigNet Technologies is the integrator on the project and is involved in the on-going project expansion. The NC State installation has over 350 cameras located in multiple departments on campus, and the university network has ample capacity for the project to scale substantially as demand dictates. The project is unique and innovative in that one department, the AllCampus Network, manages the servers, storage, and technology while offering each campus department the opportunity to purchase and integrate the cameras they need into the campus standard. As new buildings are built or when a department expresses security concerns, the AllCampus Network serves as security consultant, with University Police, providing the standards and criteria new users need to address. The parties agr... [more]

Delhi Police deploys city IP surveillance project
posted on 08/10/2007

Delhi is a city of 13.8 million spread over 1500 square kilometers (580 sq. mi.) with more vehicles than the three metros of Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata combined. Such a huge city with this level of traffic has enormous surveillance challenges. Dr KK Paul, Commissioner of Delhi Police said, “Delhi today has more than 31,000 kilometers (19,250 miles) of roads and 4.8 million registered vehicles, therefore deployment of such remote surveillance systems in Delhi have become a necessity.” DVTel, Inc. has announced the successful deployment of a highly ambitious city surveillance project with the Indian Police in the city of Delhi. Delhi-based Turbo Consultancy Services, Ltd. is the systems integrator on the project. In the initial project phase, the Indian Police installed a mix of DVTel PTZ and fixed IP cameras in nine locations around the city. All cameras are capable of streaming dual video streams at 4 CIF resolution and 25 frames per second (PAL). Surveillance runs 24 hou... [more]

Melbourne City Council upgrades Safecity Camera Program with DVTel Latitude Network Video Management System
posted on 05/10/2007

The Melbourne City Council has deployed the DVTel Latitude Network Video Management System (NVMS) to upgrade its already successful Safecity Camera Program. SNP installed and commissioned the Safecity DVTel system. When first installed in 1997, the Safecity Camera Program’s CCTV system was cutting edge. A key element was a fiber cable plant installed in a star configuration that took advantage of the Council’s infrastructure to future-proof existing camera locations, arguably for decades to come. The upgrade to a new digital solution has proven the wisdom of the Council’s investment. Now, with that original fiber optic signal path mated to the new DVTel NVMS head end, Melbourne City Council’s solution is positioned to take advantage of its legacy PTZ cameras with no need to choke performance to meet bandwidth restrictions imposed at the network switch. In performance terms, the DVTel-driven solution delivers 4 CIF at 25 frames per second (PAL) on all inputs. That means simu... [more]
