New wireless video surveillance solution for public safety applications
posted on 26/09/2007
Aruba Networks has announced a new wireless video surveillance solution targeted at public safety applications at universities, security applications at corporate facilities and retail facilities, and supply chain management at logistics centres. Designed for use with both existing Aruba wireless LAN networks and green field applications, the new video solution is based on open standards and works with virtually any Internet-enabled and legacy analogue camera. Based on technology from Aruba and partners Milestone Systems and Wren Solutions, the new video solution also incorporates pan/tilt/zoom control, two-way audio, and advanced video storage and retrieval to round out the solution. The simplicity of the new video system architecture extends from camera to control centre. Cameras installed anywhere on the LAN or across the WAN are automatically discovered with Aruba's centralised architecture. All camera traffic is tunneled to the camera management system, eliminating the need for ... [more]

Steelbox 1000 actively manages video surveillance infrastructure to protect network bandwidth
posted on 25/09/2007
According to a June 2007 Gartner report entitled ‘What Type of Video Surveillance is Right for Your Organization?’, co-authors Jeff Vining and John Pescatore noted that comprehensive IP video are becoming more integrated within the existing IT environment, and are placing new demands on the existing network infrastructure. For instance, the streaming of live video is bandwidth-intensive, and it can be too costly to upgrade networks or too difficult to use in situations where there are many users. “Moving video surveillance to digital systems has many advantages and is inevitable for most enterprises” said John Pescatore, VP, Gartner. “Businesses need to develop architectures for secure and efficient processing and storage of surveillance data.” Steelbox NetworksTM, Inc. have announced the availability of the Steelbox 1000, a powerful network video recorder (NVR) and distribution solution for mid-market video surveillance applications. Unlike other NVRs, the Steelbox 1000 actively man... [more]
Technical challenges of CCTV on mobile phone
posted on 20/09/2007
British surveillance market is one of the most developed on the world. One of the most current issues for the CCTV market is to display live video on mobile phones, with professionalism and reliably. There is demand for a solution which would enable users to view cameras installed at home or in office on their mobile phone. It is a solution that gives them peace of mind as they can keep an eye on their property remotely and from almost anywhere. The challenge for manufacturers is to achive good quality of displayed video which has been previously transmited through low bandwith media like UMTS/GSM/GPRS. Currently it can be achived only by using a relevant method of compression, which is offered by manufacturers of the most advanced software. One module of software usually called Server application installed on standalone DVR or PC based DVR will exchange received signals from analog camera or coded stream of data from network camera and compress them by special method. That spec... [more]
IndigoVision IP Video technology used for Bangkok traffic monitoring
posted on 18/09/2007
IndigoVision's technology is installed as the backbone for a new integrated traffic monitoring system for Bangkok’s outer ring road network. Existing toll plaza CCTV surveillance systems located across 75km of the ring road have been integrated into a new central control room. Staff in the control room can now view high-quality video from inside and outside of the four toll plaza complexes, providing central monitoring for traffic management and staff safety. Analogue video feeds from the 64 existing dome and fixed cameras are connected to IndigoVision’s 8000 transmitter/receiver modules locally at each toll plaza. The 8000 converts the camera signal to DVD quality, high-resolution digital video for transmission over the newly installed gigabit Ethernet LAN. IndigoVision’s MPEG-4 compression technology ensures that the control staff receive CCTV images that are indistinguishable from analogue while minimising bandwidth on the LAN. Further 8000 modules are installed in the control roo... [more]
