In early 2010, Pocklington and Lyndhurst Junior Schools evaluated Bloxx Web filtering to overcome the issues they suffered with their previous solution, concerning anonymous proxies, ease of administration, e-safety compliance and downtime.

In April 2010, Pocklington School, which provides Web filtering for Lyndhurst, installed a Bloxx Web Filter 250W, which is analysing and categorising Web access in real-time at both schools. Pocklington and Lyndhurst Junior Schools are now using Bloxx Web filtering, powered by Tru-View Technology, to deliver real-time monitoring and reporting of the Web browsing activity of over 1,200 students and staff.

Stuart Hodgson, Network Manager at the school explains, “We have eradicated the problem of our students using anonymous proxies to try and circumvent our Web Filter. Having tighter controls in place has definitely helped the schools with e-safety compliance. We have introduced different Internet access policies to address the needs of our primary age pupils, secondary school pupils and our staff, and with the comprehensive reporting functionality, I can assess Internet access from the schools and quickly address any forms of abuse.”

“We have much better control of our Web filtering”, adds Stuart. “The Bloxx Web Filter’s dynamic real-time classification has solved the problem we had with sites being blocked during lessons by false positives, helping students and staff to maximise online content which boosts the standard of learning and will hopefully lead to better grades for our students. I now spend less time managing Web filtering and can focus on more urgent and important IT tasks.”

“The Bloxx Web Filter is hugely reliable and any Internet downtime has been eliminated. The ongoing support of the Web filter by Bloxx is excellent with on-site or telephone Support Engineers highly knowledgeable and providing quick resolutions to the few issues I have experienced. Overall we have seen a fivefold improvement over our previous Web filtering. Students have greater access to the Internet in a controlled and protected environment which is one of the biggest benefits we have gained and helps us ensure compliance with government e-safety guidelines,” ends Stuart.
