Handling approximately 11 million passengers in 2009, Changsha Huanghua Airport is one of the top 20 busiest airports in China. As part of a USD $270 million expansion plan, Changsha Huanghua airport has recently enhanced airport facilities and required a high security solution to secure passengers and enhance airport operations.

CEM Systems' CEM AC2000 security management system has been installed to secure Changsha Huanghua International Airport, China. The AC2000 system will be installed by Tyco Fire & Security China and will provide the airport with a fully integrated IP security solution for access control, biometrics and CCTV monitoring.

“The industry leading CEM AC2000 system has been used to secure airports around the world for over 20 years” said Andrew Fulton, Business Development Director for CEM products. “CEM understands the dynamics of airports and has an advanced range of hardware products that are ideal for airport security”.

The AC2000 system using CEM’s advanced IP readers/controllers will take advantage of the existing Ethernet infrastructure at Changsha Huanghua airport and will provide the airport with a fully integrated operational solution. CEM readers feature aviation ‘door modes’ such as ‘Passenger Mode’ for segregating arriving and departing passengers and modes for enabling air-bridges and check-in desks.

“We recommended the CEM AC2000 security system to Changsha Huanghua airport as it features the very latest in IP technology” said Amy Lee, Account Manager Security, Tyco Fire & Security Guangzhou, China. “In order to get the highest security level, CEM S610f IP fingerprint readers with an internal database and a graphical LCD screen will be installed at critical airside areas throughout the airport”.

Featuring a controller, advanced IP card reader and biometric solution all in one device, the S610f fingerprint reader will control access to restricted airside areas where an additional biometric layer of security is required. Fingerprint templates are captured on the CEM AC2000 access control enrolment station simultaneously with cardholders’ personnel details and images, providing the airport with a single biometric and access control software solution.

With an internal database for storing AC2000 server data/transactions locally, the S610f reader provides off-line biometric and card verification at all times. The S610f reader also uniquely features an LCD graphical display screen so that informative access control messages can be displayed to airport card holders e.g. ‘Card Expiring’, ‘Bad Biometric’, ‘Access Denied’. Card holders can then approach system administrators in the ID unit with the reason for denied entry, thus saving time in trying to diagnose the problem.

Changsha Huanghua airport will be using the CEM AC2000 VIPPS (Visual Imaging and Pass Production System) to capture and enrol personnel details, images, signatures and fingerprint templates. The VIPPS application will allow ID unit administrators to create bespoke permanent / temporary printed ID passes that can be colour coded to assist visual verification of a person’s access rights. E.g. Different badge designs for contractors, visitors, cabin crew and non-flying staff.

CEM’s AC2000 Alarm Event Display (AED) module will also be used to interface AC2000 to the airport’s third party CCTV system. This will create one user-friendly platform from which security staff can centrally view information on all CCTV/access control alarms and events that occur on the system.

With Changsha Huanghua airport facilities expected to grow further in 2010, the AC2000 system can be easily expanded and developed as the airport’s security requirements continue to evolve.
