Luminite wireless intruder alarm system keeps building site and materials secure
(18/12/2009)
Due to the relative costs of employing guards to patrol the site, one of Northern Ireland's premier building companies needed an alternative way to protect their site. They asked Fortress Fire & Security to install an intruder alarm system at a large building site. This was due to the high number of break-ins that had occurred which resulted in a large loss of plant and materials.
They looked to Fortress Fire & Security to provide a cost effective solution that would enable them to keep their site and materials secure. The main challenge with the job was that there was only one 240-volt power supply on site with the furthest intrusion point being some 200 metres away. As the site was a relatively large housing estate, civil works were not an option so Fortress had to look for a wireless system that would have the ability to transmit effectively over this distance.
Fortress Fire & Security contacted Luminite Electronics Ltd, as they knew they had particular expertise in wireless alarm transmission. Luminite visited the site and designed a system based upon their Wireless Genesis PIR Detector. With its range of 1km and the ability to repeat up to many kilometers, Luminites Genesis PIR system was a perfect solution.
Fortress Fire & Security installed 14 Wireless Genesis PIR detectors around the boundary of the site linking to a Luminite controller, which in turn linked to a GSM transmitter. This was programmed to call the mobile patrol guards and if necessary the Police. This gave the building site owners the cost savings of a detection system with the response and mobility of a man guard.
The system was set and unset using a Luminite Wireless Remote Keypad. This meant that the site could be secured when the last person on site was leaving by simply entering a code at the gate to arm the system.
The building site owner had their site, materials and machinery secured at a fraction of the cost of on site security guards. They now also have the benefit of taking the system with them to be re-deployed at their next site.
Jim Bates from Fortress commented “ In our opinion, Luminite has the best PIR detector on the market today and we have committed to using their systems on our projects in the future."
