GrIDsure partners with CRYPTOCard
(10/12/2009)
GrIDsure has formed a strategic partnership with CRYPTOCard. As part of the partnership, the next release of CRYPTOCard’s BlackShield ID solution due out in January 2010 will include GrIDsure’s pattern-based authentication technology.
CRYPTOCard provides authentication solutions to thousands of customers in over 70 countries and this new partnership will enable the company to offer its clients GrIDsure’s tokenless one time passcode authentication solution.
BlackShield ID, the first of CRYPTOCard’s products to include GrIDsure, will be simple for administrators to deploy, either by being auto provisioned or manually assigned to end users, who will then choose a personal identification password (PIP) during the self-enrolment process. Users will then be able to use GrIDsure instead of a traditional password to login into web-based services.
Bill Laham, SVP Products, CRYPTOCard, commented: “We are constantly looking to enhance our authentication methods and GrIDsure has provided us with an elegant solution to bolster the front end access to protected systems with a tokenless one-time-password generator. The solution is very easy to use, as patterns are easier to remember than traditional passwords. It is also low cost, as it doesn’t require any additional hardware and is highly secure as there are numerous pattern possibilities.”
“Further, we believe that the combination of this innovative authentication method and CRYPTOCard’s world-leading authentication platform will lead to a paradigm shift in the adoption of strong authentication. The solution brings strong authentication within the technical and commercial reach of all people in all organisations – many of whom have a pent-up demand for stronger identity management but have been unable to adopt existing offerings due to complexity and cost barriers.”
Stephen Howes, CEO, GrIDsure commented: “CRYPTOCard is a very significant company in the authentication space so we are very excited about the opportunities this partnership will bring. By integrating GrIDsure into Blackshield ID, CRYPTOCard has shown that GrIDsure can be a very effective extra ingredient in the overall security mix and provide easier end user access for internal and remote IT systems.”
GrIDsure’s solution is based on its groundbreaking yet simple invention that allows users to authenticate themselves by remembering a minimum of a four block sequential pattern on a five by five grid. Each time the user logs in they are presented with a challenge grid with randomly generated characters across it, and they authenticate themselves by entering the numbers that refer to their personal identification pattern (PIP).
CRYPTOCard’s implementation of this technology allows companies to customise the size and complexity of their grid, following CRYPTOCard’s philosophy of allowing companies to choose their own security policy - rather than dictating it with an inflexible product.
