BIIAB launches two new qualifications for those applying for licences to work as a security guard or a CCTV operative
(22/10/2009)
BIIAB has launched two new qualifications to support those applying for licences from the Security Industry Authority (SIA) to work as a security guard or a CCTV (Public Space Surveillance) operative.
BIIAB Level 2 National Certificate for Security Guards (NCSG)
Anyone wishing to be employed as a security guard has to be in possession of a licence issued to them by the Security Industry Authority (SIA). One of the eligibility criteria for licence applicants is that they must hold a relevant and accredited qualification. The new BIIAB NCSG meets this criterion.
The Ofqual accredited qualification comprises of two units, each of which is assessed via a 40 question multiple-choice exam:
Unit 1 – Roles and Responsibilities of Security Guards (20 hours)
Unit 2 – Conflict Management for Security Guards (10 hours)
BIIAB has also developed a Scottish version of the qualification – the SQA accredited National Certificate for Security Guards (Scotland) (NCSG(S)) – to meet the requirements of Scottish law.
BIIAB Level 2 National Certificate for CCTV Operatives (Public Space Surveillance) (NCCCTV(PSS))
CCTV(PSS) operatives have to be in possession of a licence issued to them by the Security Industry Authority (SIA). One of the eligibility criteria for licence applicants is that they must hold a relevant and accredited qualification. The new BIIAB NCCCTV(PSS) meets this requirement.
The Ofqual accredited qualification comprises of two units:
Unit 1 – Roles and Responsibilities of a CCTV Operator
Unit 2 – CCTV Surveillance Techniques
The Guided Learning Hours for the qualification are 30, and there is one 60 question multiple choice examination, for which 90 minutes are allowed. There is also an internal assessment for Unit 2.
Exemptions are allowed against all these qualifications and further information can be found on the SIA website.
Cathie Smith, Director of BIIAB, commented: “BIIAB specialises in the development of qualifications to support a safe and successful night time economy and the introduction of these new qualifications continues to demonstrate this. BIIAB’s excellent service standards and fast turnaround time for the issue of certificates ensure that candidates can apply to the SIA for their licences almost immediately after the course, giving them a clear advantage and allowing them to be out and working as soon as possible.”
As with all other BIIAB qualifications, the training is being delivered through a UK-wide network of BIIAB approved training centres.
