Sports Direct upgrades 380 UK stores with state-of-the-art retail security
(23/10/2009)
Sports Direct has upgraded its 380 UK stores with state-of-the-art retail security, using the latest internet-based systems. The transition offers better security, reduced leakage and the ability to monitor and manage security systems in real time. The project was led by Metro Security GB Plc, working with Sports Direct’s in-house technical team and Adder, Metro’s partner for retail analytics.
For Sports Direct the key requirement was better loss prevention. The Metro solution brought together intruder alarms, CCTV cameras and security personnel, putting them alongside Adder’s sophisticated EPoS analytics and remote online management. Under Metro’s direction, all 380 Sports Direct stores were also upgraded to real-time alarm system management using Emizon 21 advanced dual path signalling.
Sports Direct’s security manager sees significant advantages in the move: “In terms of loss prevention, our in-house team now has intelligent data in real time, saving hours of labour. The change has contributed to a 30% improvement in our rates of detection. Emizon’s dual path IP signalling service has also enabled us to achieve a significant improvement in store security. Together with Metro’s remote maintenance, our store managers are now free to spend more time leading their teams, and less time on alarm system management.”
Trevor Wallace, MD of Metro, adds: “By working closely with Sports Direct to understand its requirements, we have been able to provide a solution that means better customer service and improved security, without increasing costs. It’s another example of the way we have gone far beyond our original electronic signalling service,” he continues. “Metro’s policy is to leverage high-speed broadband to bring customers a growing portfolio of profit-focused services, including CCTV integration and till analytics. The Sports Direct project shows what can be achieved when customer and supplier work together to exploit the latest technologies.”
