SIA night checks at pubs and bars find door staff complying with licensing regulations

By law, door staff must hold a front line SIA licence and display this whilst working. Those who manage, supervise and/or employ door staff must hold a non-front line licence.
Recent night checks at pubs and bars in Skegness and Ingoldmells found door staff complying with licensing regulations. As part of a follow-up to another operation conducted last month to ensure that only SIA licensed door staff work at local licensed premises officers from Lincolnshire Police and licensing officers from East Lindsey District Council joined investigators from the Security Industry Authority.
22 venues were visited with 25 door staff inspected. All door staff seen on the night held valid SIA licences.
The police and the council are making enquiries into one venue under new management who may not have fully implemented all the required provisions of the legislation in relation to a manager holding a non-front licence.
Nigel Davies, SIA Head of Investigation said: “With the summer holidays , the public should expect to see, and deserve to be protected by, SIA licensed door staff, so I was pleased to find all operatives checked were correctly licensed during this multi agency operation. I would also like to thank our partners and look forward to working with them again soon.”
Inspector Phil Clark who heads up licensing in East Division of Lincolnshire Police commented, "In our primary role in preventing and detecting crime and disorder it is vital that we have partner agencies which are effective in their own roles. The SIA and the police work very closely to ensure the safety of people enjoying an evening's entertainment and equally, deal robustly with those who seek to disrupt this activity. The SIA ensures that all door supervisors are accredited and that the appropriate checks have been completed. We fully support this work and all that the SIA does in ensuring legislation is adhered to."
