A rise in cybercriminal activity is expected, with internet adoption rates driven by mobile broadband becoming more widespread. Recent Police statistics suggest that over 800,000 mobile devices are reported stolen annually in the UK. Last year also saw an unprecedented growth in the number and sophistication of computer threats. Trend Micro is now recording 1,500 unique malware samples per hour (up from 600 a month in 2004) and predicts that this will rise to 26,500 per hour by 2015.

Trend Micro has announced that it has been selected as the exclusive content security solution at The Carphone Warehouse, Europe's leading independent retailer of mobile phones. As part of the agreement, Trend Micro Internet Security Pro will be available immediately to The Carphone Warehouse customers via all of its UK stores and its online sales operation on purchases of mobile phones, laptops and smartphones.

“At Trend Micro we believe in making our highly effective content security readily available throughout the UK, giving consumers increased protection wherever they are and on whatever device they’re using to access the internet”, said Anthony O’Mara, Vice President at Trend Micro EMEA. “We’re excited to be The Carphone Warehouse’s exclusive content security partner and we are confident that this relationship will provide customers with increased protection from cybercriminal activity”.

Trend Micro Internet Security Pro has been specifically designed to keep consumers’ data and personal information protected from online threats. The cloud-based solution features robust smartphone security, which uses advanced encryption technology to prevent data theft, block viruses and SMS, as well as fighting malware designed to extract sensitive data from a smartphone.

Andrew Harrison, UK CEO of The Carphone Warehouse said: “Our customers are increasingly using portable devices to carry and share important and confidential corporate and personal information. As a responsible retailer, we want to ensure that they have best in class data security to protect them from cybercrime. Many people are unaware that their smartphone is exposed to the same security risks as their PC or laptop when surfing the web. Trend Micro’s solution ensures that our customers can be reassured that whatever device they are using to access the internet, they will be protected.”
