Surrey Community Development Trust (SCDT) is a charitable organisation that provides support and housing facilities to vulnerable individuals, decided to change its existing antivirus product as it was affecting its employees ability to work.

Sunbelt Software has announced that SCDT has switched its antivirus solution to VIPRE Enterprise because of its higher levels of performance and minimal use of systems resources. With VIPRE Enterprise, SCDT benefits from comprehensive anti-malware security while protecting the productivity of over 90 staff across 16 sites in Surrey and Berkshire.

Andrew Hogwood, IT support officer explained, “With our previous solution, scans for malware would last up to several hours, and the machines were not able to support other activities during this time. This was affecting user productivity on a regular basis. When our security software licenses came up for renewal we decided to look at alternative providers that could better meet our needs.”

Hogwood chose Sunbelt Software’s VIPRE Enterprise as it met SCDT’s criteria of security, performance and ease of management. Following this decision, VIPRE was rolled out across the organisation’s sites, with the implementation managed centrally from SCDT headquarters. Users have a single agent running in the background on their machines, ensuring they are protected against threats at all times.

"I have used a wide variety of security products in the past, and the problems that we faced were always around the amount of resources that these systems required," said Hogwood. “VIPRE Enterprise provides the protection that our users require, but demands far less system resources to run. This allows our users to continue working without interruption or slow down. It was also a lot more cost-effective than our previous AV solution – as a not-for-profit organisation, our IT budget has to demonstrate real results back to the organisation, and VIPRE certainly delivers this.”

Alex Eckelberry, CEO at Sunbelt Software, commented, “Too often in the past, IT security would come at the expense of user productivity or ease of use. Sunbelt’s approach to the antivirus market is based on making sure that our customers don’t have to face that dilemma. We have architected VIPRE from the ground up to be as light on resources as possible, ensuring that users can keep working even while active security scans and updates are being carried out.”

At VIPRE Enterprise's core is an antivirus and antispyware agent that merges the detection of all types of malware into a single, efficient, and powerful system. The new technology was developed exclusively by Sunbelt, instead of building on older generation antivirus engines.

VIPRE Enterprise uses multiple techniques to inspect the characteristics of all types of potentially threatening files. From simple signature-based detection to dynamic, sophisticated analysis of malware files, VIPRE quickly determines whether a file is good or bad, enabling comprehensive detection of both existing and new unidentified threats. VIPRE Enterprise's agent scanning technology automatically scans user machines for malware threats and uses Checkmark Anti-Virus Desktop certified technology.
