Pickersgill-Kaye Ltd has extended its high security lock range with the introduction of a slide bar gate lock developed in cooperation with Government agencies. Pickersgill-Kaye's new gate lock is designed to secure perimeter fencing at chemical installations, power plants, gas terminals, oil refineries, utility companies, military bases and other large areas which need to restrict and control access.

This latest addition, already being installed at key utilities sites in the UK, follows the launch last year of the company's impressive claw gate lock which has been specified for certain high security applications.

The design of the new lock draws upon Pickersgill-Kaye's expertise in developing the Class 1 Cell Lock for the high security custodial lock sector and has been extensively tested and proven to the highest standards.

It includes an optional electronic activation which can be easily interfaced with existing access control systems for remote operation. The lock is fitted in a solid steel casing suitable for a variety of gate standards and its high ingress protection against dust and moisture provides increased defence against corrosion and a life-long reliability.

Preventing unauthorised access to secure sites is vital in the current climate of heightened security and the new lock provides greater reliability, ease of use and a significantly extended life span in comparison with anything else currently available.

On the recommendation of the Home Office, Crime and Fire Defence Systems Ltd had approached Pickersgill-Kaye to design and build a new lock suitable for external security applications at critical national infrastructure sites. Crime and Fire have valuable experience with high security installations but were having difficulties locating locks to match the BS1722 security standard of its fencing.

Chris Laughton, Director of Crime and Fire, was impressed at how quickly and smoothly Pickersgill-Kaye were able to adapt their existing custodial product to the new application. "The Pickersgill-Kaye lock", he stated, "has no equivalent for perimeter access control that works within the overall design of the project."

A rigorous examination of the new lock was undertaken by White Technology and Engineering Ltd (WTE) including testing durability to over 100,000 operations and a corrosion test that bathed the lock in a salt spray at 100% humidity for 96 hours. Dr Martin White of WTE described the lock as "solid and robust" adding that its performance "exceeded European standards and should provide for many years reliable service".

Pickersgill-Kaye's Business Development Manager for Security and Engineering Products, John Moore said: "It was vital to develop a solution with an extended life. Because these locks are by their nature in situations open to the elements 365 days a year, they need to be reliable against weather corrosion. The Pickersgill-Kaye range significantly extends the life of the lock in comparison to anything currently available and its pedigree security standards are second to none."
