Providing customers with evidence that a security check has taken place is essential to building confidence and trust in the reliability of the service. Chubb Emergency Response has launched The PIPE, a small hand-held device used by mobile patrol officers to automatically record and report the service delivered.

According to Scott Bennison, General Manager of Chubb’s Emergency and Response Services business: “The PIPE provides a complete report, quickly and effectively, showing times, dates, officers’ names, locations, and incidents, all presented in a daily bulletin.”

The PIPE has three components: a data recording device carried by the guard, memory buttons placed around a building, and incident buttons kept in a pocket-size carrying case similar to a wallet.

Each of the memory buttons contains a microchip with a unique ID number. As the officer passes, this ID is read by The PIPE, which emits an audible beep and flashes a red LED to tell him that the data has been collected. The officer then touches an incident button in his wallet to report specific factors such as lights being left on, doors open or windows broken.

This data is then stored on The PIPE and downloaded at the end of the tour to provide a complete record of where the officer has been and when, and whether any incidents have been reported. Each individual PIPE can hold up to 4,800 readings and downloads in less than 10 seconds.

The lightweight, waterproof PIPE is rugged in construction, and has the ability to withstand extreme temperature variations. Electronics are housed within a stainless steel corrosion proof casing. The lithium batteries provide 24-hour battery life with a non-stop working two-year guarantee. It is also tamper-resistant.

Alongside The PIPE, Chubb can provide a range of tamper-resistant button mounts that will keep the button safe from the elements and also from vandalism and abuse. Small and unobtrusive, they will not corrode or degrade, and are therefore ideal for both indoor and outdoor applications. The wallet of incident buttons can also be configured for each customer’s requirements, set up to report specific events.

Chubb is part of UTC Fire & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp.
