Genie CCTV monitors security health and safety at Devon nightclub
(14/01/2009)
Genie CCTV has teamed up with security systems installer Castle Security Systems to kit out a nightclub in the picturesque south Devon town of Exmouth, near Exeter. The contract follows previous work completed on-site by the firm, providing CCTV cameras for enhanced coverage of the club’s disco area. On that occasion, Genie C5351 540 TVL day/night cameras replaced existing black and white units that had become unable to provide useable images when working in conjunction with updated LED lighting.
Castle Security Systems’ proprietor, Bob Castle, declares that the Genie cameras “worked a treat” in dealing with the reduced ambient LED lighting lux levels of the disco area and having installed an initial complement of cameras for this purpose he expects this number to increase to over 30.
In the meantime, the club has also implemented ambitious expansion plans, prompting the introduction of further Genie equipment to provide suitable monitoring coverage for the security, health and safety of its customers and staff. “We’ve now introduced a range of low key surveillance measures, as our client didn’t want its customers to feel they were being watched,” Mr Castle explains.
“The club’s activities include a snooker area and we decided the most appropriate solution to its requirements would include four high resolution 540 TVL GC3HSMO/D colour cameras mounted within a covert smoke detector case.”
Castle Security Systems has additionally specified a 540 TVL GC3HPIRWA Genie camera unit discreetly housed in an operational PIR (passive infrared) housing that also provides audio capability. Added to this are seven high-resolution GM300HX mono (600 TVL) PCB covert cameras that are being used for short range purposes within infrared LED ceiling tile apertures.
Power is supplied by a GPR816 16-port 24V rack mount supply unit, while Genie’s GTP007 ‘smart cabling’ passive baluns have been deployed for use with cat 5E unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable. UTP is more flexible than traditional coax cable, is lower cost and has better transmission qualities.
Meanwhile, a GTH016 19” 16-channel rack-mount passive video balun is also in use at the club, while outside a compact infrared LED illuminator (IR36) provides illumination for existing cameras monitoring the fire exit and has been installed to ensure the club’s neighbours aren’t disturbed by ‘white light’ floodlights being switched on.
“We’ve used Genie equipment for many years and find it’s good value for money, very reliable in operation and provides excellent pictures. It does what it says on the tin and provides a lot more performance than kit that costs two to three times more,” Mr Castle adds. “Genie’s technical support on this project has been brilliant – nothing’s been too much trouble. They’ve been prompt, helpful and really know what they’re talking about.”
Commenting on the installation, Genie CCTV’s Marketing Manager, Binit Shah, said he’s very pleased about Castle Security Systems’ experience with the equipment and service: “Bob’s testimonial is great news and his positive feedback about Genie speaks for itself in terms of what we provide to our customers”
