For many companies and local authorities, the need to enhance their IT security policy has increased significantly over the last years. Many try to reinforce their security and regulatory compliance while reducing their help desk costs. Winchester City Council decided that the most efficient way of enforcing its application access policy was by opting for Evidian’s Enterprise SSO.

Employing over 500 employees in the governmental district in Hampshire, the Winchester City Council addresses the needs and requirements of 110,000 inhabitants by providing services that deal with housing, education, culture and many others. At the city council, passwords were turning into a real headache and it became necessary to facilitate and secure access for the end-user.

Sheila Davidge, head of information management and technology, says “Evidian’s Enterprise SSO solution will enable the Winchester City Council to increase security by enforcing complex password policies for key business applications and their critical data. Furthermore, with an increase in user productivity and satisfaction, our commitment to our members has significantly grown, coupled with significant cost savings.”

Evidian’s Enterprise SSO also allowed the City Council to:
* Record all accesses to applications in a centralised audit database to track and control secure access to personal data, in accordance with information governance guidelines
* Securely share workstations between users without having to close or reopen a Windows session every time
