Sentinel Hardware Keys secure subscriptions to Datz Music Lounge
(01/01/2009)
SafeNet, Inc has announced that Datz, an online music download service, has chosen Sentinel Hardware Keys to secure subscriptions to its Music Lounge.
The UK-based Datz Music Lounge allows users to legally download an unlimited number of tracks for a fixed annual rate. The songs are free from digital rights management and can be transferred to an iPod, MP3 player or a mobile phone.
Anyone wanting to use the Music Lounge must subscribe to the service. Each subscription is then protected by a Sentinel Hardware Key, which stores protected information using public key cryptography and 128-bit AES encryption. The keys also include internal authentication which prevents cloning and protects against identity fraud.
“We require a high level of security to protect our assets, the label partners, and the publishers alike,” said Paul Sims from Datz. “Additionally, we want to allow users to access their music subscription from more than one computer and update their subscription in the field. SafeNet’s Sentinel Hardware Keys provide both the security and flexibility to do this.”
Users simply have to install the Datz Music Lounge software and plug the Sentinel USB key into their computers. They are then automatically directed to the online music lounge. The Datz service allows access from up to two computers, and the remote update capability allows users to change which machines they access the service from, securely.
“Datz Music Lounge is an innovative approach to enjoying legal music,” said Chris Holland, vice–president of SafeNet Software Rights Management. “This partnership is a perfect example of how a software rights management solution can be used to manage a Web-based subscription application.”
