Finjan offers free malware detection audit to halt Crimeware Trojan

Finjan has announced it is offering qualified organisations a free malware detection audit to halt Crimeware Trojan’s and other malware attacks on enterprises.

Finjan's free trial offer comes after security vendor RSA has estimated the Sinowal Trojan has taken the details of 270,000 online bank accounts and 240,000 payment cards from financial institutions in a number of countries, including the US, UK, Australia and Poland.

"Recent reports that the Sinowal Trojan has resurfaced with a vengeance is bad news, especially since the malware has been around since the start of 2006. The fact that it is still around more than two and a half years later means that it is still hoovering up IDs and passwords," said Tim Warner, UK and France Country Manager for Finjan.

"Because of the severity of this latest attack, we are taking the opportunity of offering a free trial of our live traffic analysis technology to qualified organisations, which does not require any changes to their security infrastructure and network topology to install and operate," he added.

Tim Warner went on to say that the Finjan’s auditing tool, RUSafe, gives enterprises a clear snapshot of the true nature of their Web traffic over a pre-defined timeframe, without disrupting in-line live traffic and being completely invisible to its users.

According to Warner, whilst the Sinowal Trojan can be devastating in terms of the potential damage it can cause to employees ' computers and their personal finances, putting organisations in a difficult legal position the repercussions to a company of an infection in the finance or procurement departments can be many times worse.

Companies, he explained, tend to frequently make large payments, so a criminal could quickly defraud them of substantial amounts using their online banking credentials. Companies also make multiple payment cards available to staff and coupled with the large balances that most companies keep in their bank accounts, the potential for financial damage from a business Sinowal infection is extremely severe.

"What makes it worse is if one single member of staff clicks on a malware-infected URL and loads the Crimeware. The consequences of an organisation infection are usually devastating, which is why we are making this unprecedented offer to companies," he said.

Users, says Warner, are often hit by the drive-by Crimeware when they visit any Web site infected with the Sinowal Trojan or other malware, the majority of which are legitimate websites allowed by simple URL Filtering technology
