Lewis Silkin, a leading UK law firm, has selected Workshare Protect and Professional to create a secure document management system that enables collaborative working as well as protection against data leaks. The solution’s seamless compatibility with Microsoft SharePoint was a major factor in the firm’s decision to implement Workshare.

Workshare Professional gives Lewis Silkin the ability to compare, control and review documents easily while Workshare Protect secures information within the organisation and data sent externally by email or via mobile devices such as laptops, USB sticks, iPods and PDAs. This is of increasing importance as more of its employees choose to work remotely and while on the move.

Lewis Silkin took the decision to implement Workshare Protect because it integrated seamlessly with Microsoft SharePoint to create a completely secure working environment for its lawyers with the flexibility to carry out work uninhibited.

Since Workshare applies security policies that work with Microsoft Rights Management Systems to remain with content wherever it goes, the firm can protect data across a wide spectrum of security requirements such as email, secure PDF creation, hidden data management and alert and auditing to prevent data leakages. Lewis Silkin can even define usage rights for documents at a user level such as the ability to access, copy, print or forward information.

Jan Durant, Director of IT, Lewis Silkin LLP, comments, “Keeping the information that the firm holds confidential is absolutely vital to its success, as it means maintaining client trust and staff confidence. As more employees work outside of the traditional office environment, there is a higher risk of data being accessed by the wrong people. Workshare enables Lewis Silkin to mitigate that risk. I believe that the combination of Workshare and Microsoft is setting the benchmark for the way information is managed, controlled and, most importantly, protected within the legal industry.”

Mathew Brown, VP Products Workshare, says, “Lewis Silkin is a stand-out example of a best practice approach to data security in the legal sector. The company has taken a proactive approach to protect itself against any risk of data leakage while enhancing its ability to work collaboratively on documents. The firm is now operating one of the most robust and secure IT environments in its industry that gives its staff the freedom to work in a way that best meets the needs of its clients while knowing that its information is protected at every access point.”
