Rydon Construction staff safeguarded with SoloProtect
(10/09/2008)
The multi-million pound makeover of the five tower blocks that make up the Chalcots Estate in Swiss Cottage, North London necessitates regular contact between the main contractor Rydon Construction and the occupiers of the 711 flats on the estate.
The £66 million makeover to transform the 22-storey blocks of flats includes the replacement and refurbishment of kitchens, bathrooms, electrics and communal areas. Members of Rydon Construction’s Resident Liaison Team visit residents in their homes to negotiate access for renovation work to be carried out.
Rydon Construction has ensured that members of its Resident Liaison Team, who act as the interface between the residents and the contractor, are safeguarded with SoloProtect, a protection service for personnel working alone.
“We were conscious that once a member of the team entered a resident’s flat they were working alone and could potentially face physical or verbal abuse”, said Nikki Donnelly, Resident Liaison Manager at Rydon Construction. “We didn’t want our staff to be put in any form of jeopardy where they could not get help quickly, so we decided to investigate lone worker protection devices”.
Connexion2’s SoloProtect combines the five-core elements that are essential for a credible lone worker solution. These include the Identicom device, SIM and inclusive airtime, user training, 24 hour manned monitoring and TotalCare™ pre & post sales customer support package.
“We trialled Identicom as part of the SoloProtect package and the feedback was brilliant.” stated Nikki. “Staff reported that it was easy to use and made them feel safer knowing that they could discreetly summon help if needed. Identicom provides them with peace of mind and when used in conjunction with good lone worker practice is an invaluable asset for lone worker safety”, she concluded.
When an employee feels they are entering a hazardous situation, they press an amber alert button, providing important location information to SoloProtect’s monitoring centre. If the red alert is then pressed the centre’s support staff can discreetly listen in to what is happening and make an assessment as to the level of support required– involving the police if necessary and verifying the user’s location through the amber alert and location positioning technology. In the event of a verbal confrontation, the Centre can also record the conversation for future action.
