Denbighshire County Council reduces the complexity of managing its security infrastructure with Eventia Suite free RSS feed from Security Park

Denbighshire County Council's network supports Internet access for all employees, all schools within the county, as well as Internet access from local libraries. This means close control over IT security is vital to protect against threats and attacks from these multiple endpoints.

Check Point Software Technologies Ltd has announced that Denbighshire County Council in Wales has deployed the Eventia Suite security information and event management (SIEM) solution to reduce the cost and complexity of managing its security infrastructure.

Eventia Suite, which includes Eventia Analyzer for real-time, automated security event correlation and Eventia Reporter for historical trend analysis, is helping lift the burden of security management of the Council's network. The Suite saves 2 days per month on administration by automating collection, correlation and prioritization of raw security log data from the network.

“We host and provide web access for a large, diverse range of users, so our firewalls and other security devices produce huge volumes of log data – around 1GB per day,” said Shannon Gage, technical support analyst for Denbighshire Country Council. “This was making it difficult for me to do regular security health-checks and pro-actively identify any emerging issues or threats.

“I wanted to be able to work more efficiently and improve my network's overall security stance. Eventia Analyzer and Eventia Reporter were easy to deploy, and give me a clear, uncluttered picture of important events on the network. The analysis and reporting functions are cutting my administration time by an average of two days per month. This also makes detailed inspections of network traffic and devices easier,” concluded Gage.

Eventia Analyzer aggregates and correlates log data from the Council’s three Nokia IP security platforms running Check Point VPN-1 Power NGX R65, an integrated firewall, VPN and intrusion prevention gateway. The Council also plans to use Eventia Analyzer to correlate data from other security solutions. Eventia Reporter centralises reporting on network, security, and user activity and consolidates the data into concise predefined and custom-built reports, helping to save time.

The Council’s VPN-1 Power deployment provides comprehensive security and remote connectivity, and defends networks from denial-of-service (DoS) attacks without disruption to critical business operations and communications. VPN-1 Power protects the Council’s main 100MB Internet pipe, the corporate network and the leased-line connections serving each school and library, preventing hacking and intrusion attempts and securing network traffic.
